Has anyone tried the beta version of Vixen 3.0?  Is it working with the USB Dongle yet?

It is this in a virgin Beta state, not much you can do with it until the next beta release.

It does have some very nice potential features planned.

I could be wrong but at the moment there is no modules for the usb dongle (dmx or pixelnet)

There is a E1.31 (i.e.: works with the EtherDongle) which I am told "works" but it crashed for me.

Its a wait and see what the next version has.

I don't see any answers to using the USB Dongle with Vixen 3. Do I need to switch to ether dongle?

Vixen 3 is talked about and manyof the developers are members of DIYC so if you don't h=get an answer here. you hve a really goo chance of getting one over there for Vixen 3.

Having used LOR since 2008 and owning LSP 32k ch version ... I would start using xlights nutcracker for any new sequencing personally ... the sequencing is just so much faster and flexible -- I believe even in its infancy, its outclassed everything else out there.

You'll like the version 3 then since nutcracker is built right into it.  A few quirky things with it I'm still learning but its starting to grow on me.  I'm a LSP 32k user also but you always have to try things :)

Biggest let down with 3 is no export function. It is a very clean interface though.

My show is running Vixen 3 with Conductor this year.  It's a TON easier with RGB than working through Vixen 2.  I tried using Vixen 2, tried LSP, and HLS.  I would try all the software programs to determine which you like best, but with over 2000 pixels plus some LED elements, Vixen 3 was my choice.  Took me about 4 hours to sequence an entire song, way quicker than last year!  Once the exporter is fully released it will be the game changer for many people.

They do a pull of the code every so often.  It's not 100 percent exact but it's close.

I know this original post was back in 2012, but after learning V3 doesn't support the use of routines, I won't be using V3.  I generate routines and then do further modification within the sequencer.  Vixen+ seems a lot more powerful/useful for how I sequence.  This year time was tight so I continued with Vixen 2.1.1.  I'm not a fan of "Object Level" sequencing as it doesn't look right to me.

they have only pulled our code once, that was back in april. i think it was version 3.0.8. we are about 25 releases later.

it took them weeks to get that ccode compiled. this next year we will be having a discussion of how they cn stay more current. i am thinking of offering xlights to be able to run in batch mode. then vixen+,vixen3 or the others could call our xlights,.exe and pass in an xml file. we would then sequence it into a file that can be used by the sequencers. discussuin will occur this next year. matt brown has said it would be too difficult to make a xlights.dll so this may be our second choice.

it is, at least, recognized as a need

I agree the object level sequencing seems a bit unusual currently.   But I think with the spatial concepts coming (to me a 2d x,y coordinate system would be fine. -- I would see assigning those myself to each model in nutcracker) that it'll open up the limitations a lot.   To me a sweep from left too right or top bottom of all objects or a set of objects would be amazing.   I see that LOR is so far behind anymore that I can't see going back.   I also think visualizers don't work on big displays so that's also something I'm not too worried about going forward.    Your show is the ultimate visualizer if you can take advantage of it.

Since I started from scratch this year I looked a couple three programs (poked at Vixen 3 from the forums asking questions) as well and settled on LSP.  I just loved the visualizer function and seeing my own house with lights where I put them and to the scales I needed them to be.

On my nutcracker wish list would be the same ability with the preview, to put your house as the background and more functionality in scaling the models in preview.

LSP with the macro's and transitions appealed to me as well, someday they will clean up the little timing mark gremlins, which I've learned after 5 sequences to work through or completely around.  The layers are powerful in there, but some basic items like a chase are exceptionally challenging compared to update grid.  :)

xlights/Nutcracker has pushed all of them to move forwaard and I think some adaption is planned from a number of the software products out there.

Vixen 3 didn't hit my radar after I heard it could not export the shows and I had planned to use the conductor, but ended up never flashing the etherdongle over.  Used the xlights schedular for a few nights and had issues, switched over to LSP's scheduler and it was rock solid for the last 8 days.

If support for Vixen 3 is half as good as Sean's nutcracker support it should take off, I miss that level on LSP as there just is not enough volume on the LSP forum to get a fast answer.  Got some good answers over here on diyla for some items.
