Hello DLA Members,
This is a Coop for the Lynx Smart String Controller and the Lynx Smart String Hub
This Coop is not for the lights, only the controllers
NOTE: The Pic’s will not be programmed in this coop. You must have a Pickit programmer or access to one or someone who has one.
Please read this post completely before participating in this Coop.
This coop is for Kits that will include the PCB with parts.
NOTE: The Smart String controller is designed to control up to the following:
128 Smart String Nodes maximum per controller no more. If you are going to purchase more than 128 nodes and want to use them you will need additional Smart String Controllers.
120 of the (Square Metal Backed) 50/50 Nodes per controller. If you will have more than 120 of the (Square Metal Backed) 50/50 nodes you will need more controllers.
80 of the (Plastic rectangle) 50/50 Nodes per controller. If you will have more than 80 of the (Plastic rectangle) 50/50 nodes you will need more controllers.
1 Flexible LED Strip per controller. If you have more than one strip, you will need more controllers.
Kit #1 Smart String Controller PCB With Parts This kit includes the PCB and parts. Additionally this kit will also include the RJ45 pigtail. This is being done to make it easier and cheaper to obtain this part. The Pigtail is the female connection at the end of the Smart String Controller that the cable coming from the Hub will plug into.
Kit #2 Smart String Hub PCB With Parts The Hub can support up to 16 Smart String Controllers.
Kit #3 Optional 12V parts only kit for the Smart String Hub This kit is used if you decide to supply 12VDC only into the hub. This would mean that you are NOT using the ATX or other PC power supply connectors on the Hub.
No other parts or PCBs are included in this coop.
There will be no PCB only options in this coop.
By participating in this Coop you agree that the Coop manager and DLA (as a board and to also include all administrators, moderators, and members) shall not be held responsible for any liability.
You are joining this Coop at your own risk.
As with any Coop, this Coop is subject to the Forum Coop Rules.
These rules can be reviewed using the following link.
http://diylightanimation.com/index.php?topic=111.0
This Coop will close at 8:00 P.M. EST –Monday, January 31, 2011. Or sooner if called by the Co-Op manager, another DLA Administrator, or Moderator.
Once the Coop is closed I will send each member a PM confirming the details of their order and the payment amount that is due for parts. After all parts are sorted and packed a second PM will be sent for the shipping amount.
Full payment for parts is expected when the coop is closed since the parts orders cannot be placed until all members have paid.
NOTE for PAYPAL payments. Payments will be refunded if this is not done.
1. You must have a valid shipping address in PayPal, I can only ship to the address on file with PayPal. Please update your address information if you need to.
2. Please submit your PayPal payments as soon as you get the Coop invoice PM.
3. Please select “Goods” when submitting your payment.
4. In the notes field of the payment you must supply your Forum ID as I have no other way to track who is who.
Here is the pricing breakdown based on the initial quote from the vendor.
Pricing is in US Dollars and includes PayPal and Coop fees.
Kit #1 Smart String Controller PCB With Parts This kit includes the RJ45 pigtail.
Per Kit At Qty 250 - $10.70
Kit #2 Smart String Hub PCB With Parts
Per Kit At Qty 200 - $48.19
Kit #3 Optional 12V only kit for Smart String Hub
Per Kit At Qty 200 - $4.00
As always higher numbers reduce pricing and lower numbers increase pricing.
You can update or change your order during the ordering portion of the Coop.
Shipping will be by US Postal Service Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes.
Due to the size of the Hub PCB and number of potential parts bags, shipping will be done with the “Medium” Flat Rate box. Shipments will be upgraded to the “Large” flat rate box if needed.
Insurance will be added to the package shipping cost, when the shipping PM is sent to you. Insurance from the USPS is based on value of the package contents. I am not making this an option, I am sorry if this upsets some but I would hate to see someone’s package get damaged and then have no way to reclaim the loss. We cannot be responsible for lost or damaged packages once dropped off to USPS for shipment.
Shipping Charges: for the “Medium” flat rate box. (in US Dollars)
Domestic: $10.70
Canada And Mexico: $26.95
All Others: $43.45
Shipping Charges: for the "Large" flat rate box. (in US Dollars)
Domestic: $14.50
Canada And Mexico: $33.95
All Others: $55.95
Thanks
Bill

Pardon an old man's novice question but don't the current numbers add up to considerably more than the $5,000 coop limit? Or am I misreading the COOP rules?

Hope that's right
128 nodes per kit #1
16 SS channels per #2
Don't 100% grasp but cheap insurance #3
To clarify - kit #1 is for a Smart String controller (kit contains boards and components). It does not include ANY nodes, but each controller can control a max of 128 nodes. Nodes will be a different coop.
Kit 2 is for a Smart String hub, which can support up to 16 SS Controllers, not "Channels"

OK enough is enough.
Please only post Co-Op items in this thread.
Thanks

Do you really want 3 Kit #3's. They are 12V optional input parts that are used on the Hub. Only one Kit #3 is needed per Hub (Kit#2), if you plan on supplying 12V instead of using a PC power supply.

With my limited space (for display) I don't know what I am going to do with it yet. I also bought a lot of led strings already (550+) but I don't want to regret not ordering one. I think it is better to have one and not need it than need it and not have any. I will just continue to read the forum for some ideas.

Be aware that I was asked the other night about having the optional 12v parts on the Hub and using the computer power supply. I mistakenly said it was ok. Mike (N1ist) woke me up and reminding me that the regulators would act like current sinks.
The designs intent was to have the place to add these parts for someone that was not going to run a computer power supply but only a 12v power supply. I never planned you would install them and then use a computer power supply.
If you are using any of the power supply connectors other than the 12V optional connector then you must not have the optional parts on the pcb.
I expected maybe 5% - 10% of the hubs to be ordered with the optional parts so the large amount of optional kits has had me wondering. This is why I posted that you did not need it unless you were using a 12 volt only non computer power supply.

Best thing is a PC power supply, they can be purchased from many places, such as NewEgg.
The size power supply you need will be based on how many Smart Strings or nodes you will be running on the hub.

Light talk is moved to here http://diylightanimation.com/index.php?topic=4767.0

<la..
Nope, and what do you mean I see a Y
-
You are correct, sir, that is definitly a "Y" there. I must have been mistaken when I 'thought' I saw a "-" there for the paid column on your name.... ;D
My appologies.
Oh and I 'think' I see only 8 no pays as of now (was nine except for my 'mistake' on your name)?
-
i just got mine through. sorry for dragging tail-end.
-
Hey Bill,
If per chance if there are some no pays or extra kits I would like to pickup 4 more Kit one and 1 kit three.
Let me know I'll be out of town from the 19 to the 26 of March.
I'm sure we all appreciate what your doing Bill.
Jess
-
Bill;
If my count is correct there are 127) Kit 1, 16) Kit 2, 7) Kit 3 that are not paid as of today.
I would like to add sixteen Kit# 1, four of Kit #2 and ALL remaining Kit #3 to my order.
Thanks
Pete Peters
-
If Pete Peters is correct and these items are available I am interested in adding to my order 16 of Kit #1 and 1 of Kit #2.
Again Bill, Thank you for your work and time with this coop.
Pete
-
In most cases this is not done and what you ordered prior to the coop close is what you get because doing otherwise adds even more work for the coop manager. Sometimes an exception will be made (up to the coop manager) if the unpaid orders will cause a price increase to the paid members if deleted. If the coop manager decides to allow for the kits not paid for to be offered, they will make a post in the coop thread stating how many wil be offered and any rules relating to the second offer and will accept requests after the offer is made. Making requests prior to that is just cluttering up the thread and wasting time. If you want to increase your order or get into the coop after the close then keep a eye on this thread and see what happens. Maybe you will get lucky.
-
Thank you for the information.
Having not ever managed a coop and looking in from my knot hole I thought that offering to absorb some of the items not paid would be beneficial to all. It would help keep the prices stable, help move things along and not put a possible financial strain on the coop manager . . . also allow me to procure a few more items.
In no way do I want to complicate the book keeping and organization of this coop.
I will wait patiently and if the opportunity presents itself I may "get lucky" as you say.
Thanks again - Pete
-
I will send a final notice to remaining members, and if no payments are received I will make a post of what Kits and how many of those kits are back up for re-sale.
Bill
-
PLEASE READ
Sorry a few PM's went out by accident, if you have made your payment and received a 2nd notice please disregard. I had a group of data that I cut and pasted incorrectly.
Bill
-
Bill,
I would like 4 more #1 kits if they become available.
I know I am jumping the gun here and I am sorry, but I will be on the road all day tomorrow and don't want to miss out.
I hope I am not too far out of line.
Thanks,
OkieJay

Two payments remain for the extra kits, once those are received parts orders can begin
Bill
-
will there be another coop this year?
-
There is always the chance and it is based on both the demand for the item and if a coop manager is available and willing to take it on. I would say that the demand will be higher for other pieces that have not had a coop yet this year as well as some possible new equipment that may be on the horizon so I would not expect there to be another one all that soon. With the exception of the Ather which will only be offered as a full kit, RJ normally orders extra boards which he sells to members outside of the coops and then you can order the parts yourself from the BOM's available on the WIKI. You will need to PM him and he will let you know what is available, when, and how much but remember, he gets a lot of PM's so it might take him a couple of days to get back to you.
-
All payments are now at 100%
Orders can now be placed, ordering will begin on Monday March 21 2011.
Bill
-
Parts ordering has started. Some of our parts do have a good amount of lead time.
While I hope they don't take long, we may have up to 12 weeks for a few items to make it in.
Bill
-
Bill,
Thanks for doing another gigantic coop.
John
-
I'll second that.
Thanks Bill.

Here is the link from the wiki for the strings...

You are correct. Strings are ordered direct from ray wu's store on aliexpress. You will need to use the links on the wiki, or email ray directly. If you are placing a big order, you may get a better deal sending the email...
To use the strings, you will need at least 1 smart string controller, one hub, a dongle, and a single rail pc power supply with enough amps on the 12v rail for all of youf strings. RJ has a new etherdongle in development which I hope will be available before Christmas...
RM

Awesome. Gonna be doing a lot of catch up reading the next few weeks.

All parts are now on order.
5 parts do have back order Qty's.
Parts have also started to arrive.

Hey Bill,
Any tractor trailers showing up to your house like they did with RJ?
-Mike
-
So is this co-op open or closed again? I just joined tonight and I'm trying to figure out how I can purchase some / any of these items for the smart string components. I've got the links to Ray Wu from the wiki, but short of reading through all 32 pages of this thread, I'm a little lost as to the actual status of this coop.
I posted in the smart string forum that I could not see the coop area when logged in as Sielbear, however, that seems to have now been fixed - very bizarre.
-
This coop is closed
-
Bah... I'm assuming a parts list / bom will be released for individual orders?
-
Eventually that should happen but probably not before this coop ships out to the coop members.
-
Understood - Trying to settle on a pixel design before getting too far along in the planning for this year's show. I like the design of the smart string solution, but obviously if the parts / BOMs aren't available for purchase until June or later, that makes it a little stressful in terms of planning on having the bugs worked out, etc.
-
I guess that depends on what bugs you are trying to work out. If it has to do with sequencing, you really don't need any hardware at all to do that. If it is layout, you would probably have more issues with the strings than the controllers and you can order the strings now. The good thing is that once the BOM's are released and RJ has the boards, unless there is a long backorder on something, you should be able to get the parts and get the controllers together quickly.
-
Any ETA on the backordered parts that you could share?
Thanks again for doing this !!

No ETA's as dates are in flux and I don't want to get peoples hopes up.
I will post as I get the parts in or receive updates from Mouser.

Please let's keep this thread about the Co-Op only.

The cat is double checking the order.

News Update:
When working on the sorting last night, we discovered that a sub part for one of the capacitors has the wrong lead type. Everything thing else matched up in the spec docs including the type of connector which was lead. But the leads on these parts have some custom bends that make them not usable for the kits. But don't panic I found the original part with another supplier and placed that order last night.
Just an example that when you go to sub a part, you need to be very careful.
Just wanted to post this FYI.
Once the correct part arrives and the new bag sealer arrives (Yes a New Sealer, I will post pics) we will be able to finish sorting for the optional 12VDC input kits.

Hey Bill,
I was looking at the Smart String Hub picture and only counted 19 RJ45 jacks while your picture shows a bag with qty of 20...
I really appreciate all of the work that you are putting into the sorting of these for the rest of us!!

It's a Beta Pic, the new one uses 20.

The 12VDC Kits has been sorted and sealed.
Here are pics of the new sealer, and the contents of the 12VDC kits.
To help with confusion the 5VDC regulator has been placed into a separate labeled bag.
-
I'm impressed. I've never received a parts kit from a coop yet, so i never knew how detailed the labeling was... thanks for the extra effort, Bill!
-
I'm very impressed as well. The Lynx Express COOP was my first and it was done so professionally that I'd dare say many commercial products I have bought are not packaged as well.
It looks like this is going to be no different, and we are so thankful !! ;D
-
Nothing new to report
Bill
-
As always thanks for the update and hard work <la..
-
Sorry for the delay, nothing new on the back orders.
Was not able to get much sorting done over the weekend. I had to take a break and take care of some honey do list items such as:
Paint Master Bed Room
Remove old carpet and pad from master bed room
Install llaminate flooring in master bed room
Install ceiling fan
...etc...
Need to keep wife happy as she helps sort parts, I will post pics of the room later.
Bill

That is a lot for one weekend. Hope it was a long weekend. ;D
Jim

Wow if you can get all of that done in one weekend either 1. You are really fast or 2. You have a really small bedroom! <res. I have some "Honey dues" myself. I totally understand keeping the wife happy! ;) <fp.

Na, Not fast, was just the last room to get the carpet replaced so by now we knew what to expect, I still need to paint the bathroom, Laundry Room, and molding in all three rooms.
-
If you are getting that good at painting I've got some rooms to help keep your speed up :)
-
I would rather move than paint so I am impressed at you getting that done in a weekend! <res.

Just received notification All back ordered pics have shipped.
This leaves one item still on back order, some dipped capacitors.
Bill
-
Well the family did about 16 hours of parts sorting this weekend.
All 363 Hubs have been sorted. The wife and son helped do the sorting.
You will receive one ESD bag and one Non ESD bag per hub. Please pay close attention as the block of ESD foam contains 7 Rs485 and 4 Rs422 chips. You can tell the difference on the top of the Rs chips as you will see a white strip on the Rs422 chips. It hay not look like 16 hours but when you times the number of parts and sockets you see here by 363 it adds up quick.
Pics Attached

Many thanks to the Buehler family for all of that sorting
Thanks seems to be inadequate for such a large effort
I truly appreciate all of the hard work and hours of sorting

Bill,
Thanks for your time put into this project and an extra special thanks to your wife for giving up part of her "Mothers Day" weekend. I think I can speak for the rest of the coop members and say the time you and your family has put in is greatly appreciated! <res.

Also I wanted to make a note about the regulators:
In case anyone was wondering and before I get any more PM's, yes the regulators will be placed into anti-static bags a little later on.
They have been placed into plastic bags as just a means to help keep them separate so that we do not have users mix up the 3V and 5V regulators during the install.
The plastic bags will be placed into an ESD bag along with the other SSC parts and then sealed just as the HUB kits were done.

Well
The back ordered capacitors arrived last Wednesday. After a matron sort session of about 36Hrs here is what was done this weekend.
1. Pic's were sorted
2. RS485 chips were sorted
3. 8 Pin sockets were sorted
4. Ceramic capacitors were sorted
Pictures attached. About 15,333 parts were sorted just this weekend. This means that
Sorting for this Co-Op is now complete
[/b]
A special thanks goes out to the Wife, Son, and the Son's friend who helped sorted this Co-Op.
Very Special thanks to the wife as I have sorted parts boxes all over the house. The next step to make up one last set of ESD bags then the notices for shipping payments can then go out.

Yes,
Thank you Buehler Family as I know this was an unbelieveable coop. The numbers were just insane <res.
I truely hope the DLA community realizes how much time your family has given up to make sure everyone can enjoy Smart Strings this year!
I am forever indebted to your family for the work you have put into making DLA a success!

Indredible undertaking on this one!
THank you for all the hard work.
I have one question!
"When you had trouble sleeping, did you try counting resistors in your head to help you sleep?" <yk..
I look forward to getting my kits after all of you hard work so that I can play with some new stuff.
Thank you!

The last of the ESD bags were made today, to include some custom made ESD bags. Some members have a lot of kits. <res.

Packing has started today as well. Here is the rub.
If you have more than 36 ssc kits you will have more than one shipping box. Mostly just two, one member has three.
The RJ45 pigtails take up a lot of room and this was the best I could do. All boxes are the Medium Flate Rate Rectangle Box.
Starting the Wall O Co-Op.
Bill
-
Thanks, Bill Did you include a bag of kitty litter and other cat surprises in each box? ;D

Many thank to Bill and Family
I am sure the Post Office is going to LOVE seeing you show up with all of those boxes

All Shipping payment Pm's have been sent. Please get your payment into Bill as soon as possible.
If anyone in the coop did not recieve one please Pm me (RJ) and let me know. I am helping out and handling the payment pm's for Bill.
Thanks
RJ
-
Does this still get sent as 'goods'?
-
Thats what I did. <res.
-
I would as I am not sure which paypal payment bill generates the label off of and if not the labels will not print since there will be no address on it.
RJ
-
Is there a way to determine which shipping address you previously used in paypal? I can't remember if I used my home or work address when paying for the coop, and want to use the same one (whichever it was) for the shipping payment.
-
I see that insurance is mandatory in this coop. Just curious what drove that decision? I know in all the other recent coops it was optional. I'm not complaining, as the $7 bucks it cost me is a drop in the bucket compared to the money being laid out for SS controllers, hubs, and lights (and I'll have some extra peace of mind). Mainly just interested to know. Thanks for all your hard work on this epic coop.
-Mike

If you have the transaction ID for the payment, PM it to me and I can look up what it shows for the shipping address.

Heres the Pm you recieved:
You are receiving this pm because you are a member of the Smart String Controller coop.
Your Package is being packed and we now need payment for your shipping cost. This Pm is coming from me (RJ) but the payment will be going to Bill (Coop Manager) I am simply helping him out by doing the payment notices do to the size of the coop.
You have one Flat Rate box being shipped so your cost is :
If in the U.S. - $11.59 + insurance cost from Domestic chart below.
If in Canada/Mexico- $29.10 + insurance cost from International chart below.
If anywhere else - $46.66 + insurance cost from International chart below.
Please look at the Correct chart below for insurance (Domestic or International) and find the value of your package you wish to insure and add it to the price above.
Insurance is mandatory on this shipment.
These cost include the PayPal fee already for you.
Then please PayPal this immediately to Junkmail9@carolina.rr.com. and include in your PayPal payment comments - Username & how much insurance you put on your package.
This is a large coop and time is tight to ship these, please do not delay in sending the payment and make sure you do it correctly to help Bill and family out.

RJ
I made the parts that should have been for you bold.
So you should have sent $11.59 + the amount on the chart equal to the value of your order. Sorry It was confusing to you.
RJ
-
Good thing I read this before paying. I didn't realize insurance was mandatory. I'm recovering from sickness and family things, so my minds on auto pilot.
-
It wasn't that the wording was confusing it was that I wasn't sure if I needed to add the amount the actual parts cost or any amount I wanted for insurance. That is what was confusing to me especially because the totals were never shared.
Like I said, I paid but BILL, if it is wrong, please let me know.
Greg
-
IMHO
One should cover the amount paid via Pay Pal for the parts (you can go look at your history) + at least 10% extra in value for the insurance.
-
Shoot, I paid before I read the part about mandatory insurance. <yk.. I made 2 paypal payments. One for the shipping and one for the insurance. I hope that is OK.

Gotta back the last post as well (and also not trying to start something). I had no problems with the instructions or the payment. I was also not surprised by the insurance requirement as it was clearly stated in the first post on this thread prior to my placing any order requests.
Do some quick math at the total value of this COOP... even some of the individual orders. Statistically, I suspect at least one of these deliveries will be lost or damaged in shipment. If I were running this thing... and after all that sorting and mailing and responding to update queries... I sure wouldn't want to have to deal with an annoyed member who got a squashed box with parts he'd have to replace at twice the COOP cost in order to get his stuff to work either.
Everyone's happy to sign off on rules about 'at your own risk' and look for the absolute cheapest option until they take a loss... then it's always agnst and recriminations. In this case I think the mandatory insurance was a smart move... not to paternalistically protect those who won't protect themselves, but to protect the site and the COOP manager from having to buy even more Advil.
I'm in on the Buehler Family Night Out fund as well. Thanks guys! Amazing job.... we don't deserve you.

Hello All
I have been asked questions about the insurance a few times now, so instead of sending a PM with the same answer over and over again her I go:
Many have asked why the insurance is required on this Co-Op. Due to the size and value of this Co-Op it is for peace of mind for the Co-Op members. I have always made insurance a requirement in the Co-Ops that I run, especially when they start to get into high counts. We have all seen the horror pictures of users getting boxes in that have been ripped apart in such ways that the only thing the user ends up receiving is just an empty box. This way, should this happen a claim can then be filled with the post office. Yes I know that insurance can be seen as something of a waste of money, but it is no different than car, home, or auto insurance. It is something that you pay and may never need to claim but if you need it, you find yourself happy that you have it.
Also a note on the payment PM:
Yes this payment PM was a little different then my normal ones, in the past I would send a single amount that included all fees that needed to be paid. Due to the size of this Co-Op I just do not have the time to research and then custom figure amounts for 203 members. Sending the more generic PM saved a huge amount of time. I am running under a clock and trying the get the packages out the door to avoid any shipping delays.
Packing still continues as we are working on boxing up items each evening after work, last night 63 boxes were packed up. We are making some headway and are starting to see the light at then end of the tunnel.
Bill

If you don't think the post office can and will screw up, take a look back at the one previous wireless coop.

The few dollars of insurance is well worth it and less than the cost of shipping.

This is my first Bill coop, so i didn't know that was standard for him.
after seeing that thread from that wireless coop in the past, it sure wa an eye opener.
i may start adding insurance on all of it.

Ok now here comes the really fun part, you have to guess which box is yours (state picture one, two, three or four and which row and column it is) and if your right Bill sends it out and if not you have to keep guessing to you get it right. Sounds like really great fun right? OK so Bill probably doesn't think so because he and his family want there house to stop being a warehouse and be a home again.
Thanks again to you Bill and your family for such an undertaking!

At current count I have 23 shipping payments that have not been received. If you did not receive a shipping PM please let me know.
I am getting ready to start generating shipping labels.

I have processed all shipping labels that have paid as of 6/10/2011 at 9:26 A.M. EST.
I have the ship date set to tomorrow so you may not receive a shipping notice until then.
Pickup has been scheduled for Tomorrow. It has taken about 6 hrs just to process and print the labels. WOW this is a lot of shipments.

That is crazy
Many thanks again Bill we all appreciate your hard work <res.

Just think how much bigger your house will feel when this is all done.
Only problem is the cat is going to have to find a new bed.

I just hope the cat did not get into one of the boxes during packing. Bill, thanks to you and your family for all that you have done for us.

Got mine this morning too and already built the hub. Simply and easy to build. I was short one grouping of header pins, but I had some handy so it didn't matter.
Now I just have to wait for Ray to get his site going again and I can order my strings.
Thanks to Bill and his family to taking this one on!

WOOHOO!! - Should have a present waiting on the doorstep!
Detailed Results:
- Out for Delivery, June 13, 2011, 8:41 am
- Sorting Complete, June 13, 2011, 8:31 am
Thanks so much for taking on this huge task. Just know you've helped make Halloween and Christmas a little brighter for all the kids (young and old) who love to watch the blinky lights!
Edit - dang, slight snafu...because the insurance on the package, the PO did not leave it at the door - they took it back to the office pending a signature. Won't be available until tomorrow night, then it will probably be the weekend before I can get down there before they close. Oh well, still June - plenty of time!
-
**crash**...that's what I just heard at my door...and open it up...and SURPRISE, SURPRISE, SURPRISE....There's a box from Bill waiting on me!! Bill...I gotta say, the packaging was amazing! RJ...this looks about like the easiest thing I've ever built in the Lynx line! Now, the question is my 4 LEs arrived on the same day as the SSCs so what do I do first?? Thanks for all the work and effort Bill and family! My cat has enjoyed watching your cats at work :-)

On my doorstep this afternoon. Thanks a million for doing all this, Bill.

Received my parts this afternoon in Reno.. Great job.. THANKS!!! <res.

Check all your bags as one set of header pins was placed into one of the plastics bags instead of the hub parts bag.
An Error was found on the Hub BOM after they were sorted and sealed, it has been corrected but it meant that some header pins had to be placed into one of the other bags.

A flat rate box arrived today!
I know what I will be doing tonight!
Thanks for the hard work Bill!
I love Christmas in June.

No big deal at all Bill...I had another set on hand so it didn't matter.

Got mine today!
Thanks so much,
RickeyS
-
Mine came today also. Thanks
-
Dear Bill...you and your family rock. That is all :) <res.
-
Got mine today sort of. EVERY coop I have been in so far has been delivered. If it won't fit in the mail box at the road, they would put it at the garage door. (cant see it from the road). Now on the coop I have been waiting on for a long time, they decide to to put a notice in my mail box that they missed me. I can pick it up at the post office after today <fp.
I work 40 miles north 7am to 4pm. The post office is 10 miles south of me. Looks like I will have to wait till Saturday morning and go get it. :-\
I wonder if this one was not left at the garage like all the others because it was insured?
Oh well at least I know it is here in town.
Ron
-
Got my notice today. Thanks!
-
Mine came today as well. Now all I need are the proper "shake to assemble" instructions. >:D
-
The 100ohm 3 watt resistor is 15ohm's. colors are brown, green, black. should be brown, black, brown. Not a big deal. I didn't notice it untill i powered the board up and checked voltages. I had soldered the resistor in so that it stood off the board. while doing checks I watched the resistor slowly slide down to the board. It was kinda funny. I put a 10 watt 100 ohm from radio shack in it's place works like a champ.
all in all. Great job on the coop.
Rob
-
Are you saying that the resistor got so hot that it unsoldered itself.
-
I am sorry but a change was made to the Hub that the large resistor sent with the coop for them is not correct. This was a mistake on my part. Please do not use them. They will overheat.
The Pcb marking is Correct it does use a 100 ohm 3 watt resistor not the 15 ohm one sent in the kits.
I have enough on order to replace them so please send me a paypal for 1 cent and in the comments put that you need replacement resistors for the hub coop and how many.
I will have the resistors in hand by the weekend so get the paypal out to me right away so I can send them out to you.
The paypal is so I can generate the shipping to ship them to you.
RJ
-
got my package today! Thanks Bill and FAMILY for all the hard work.
As to the resistor, I am not going to worry about getting them from RJ. I can swing by the electronics store and pic a few up for less than it would cost RJ to ship them to me.
Thanks!

Got my notice today and I will be picking the boxes at the PO tomorrow . Thanks!
-
Are you saying that the resistor got so hot that it unsoldered itself.
Yes it did. It is the first time I have ever seen that happen. And I did think it was funny.
-
I checked my local radio shack and they do not carry a 100 ohm 3 watt resistor. RJ, what email address should I use for Paypal? I just know that God is teaching me patience.
Bill and RJ, thank you for ALL of your amazing work!
Michael

are the regulators marked "LD33CV" supposed to be the ones used on the controllers in the "LD117" positions?
I did not receive anything marked LD1117
-
What is the Mouser part# for the double pin headers? I'm short 4 of them (2 kits) and need to order some more?

Did you check the bags for the SSCs?
Bill has already posted that they are in there. The hub bags were sealed when a qty mistake was found so they were put in the SSC bag but are for the hub
Cheers
Rick R.
-
Yes, - I found them when I started on the SSCs .
thx

PICs are not pre-programmed in this COOP, correct?
ldkennell

I would imagine not, although the original co-op announcement doesn't actually specify.

I'm sure someone who has built already would know.
I think the new website looks great. Normally I hate change, but this looks good already !!
-
All my Radio Shack had was 100 ohm 1 watt resistor. Will this work?
-
Can someone verify that the checksums for the hub and ssc given in the wiki are correct. I am getting different values Hub-8196 and SSC-E2BC instead of the stated 811e and E444
-
Got mine today (of course my lazy mailman was supposed to deliver it yesterday >:( ) Again thanks to Bill and family for all there work sorting and packaging and RJ for the design.
-
All my Radio Shack had was 100 ohm 1 watt resistor. Will this work?
1Watt will not work, it is not big enough to handle the power dissipation.
-
Hey RJ will this one from Radio Shack work? http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062293

This would but it is kind of big and will not fit the board properly. If it were me I would wait for the replacements.
They are on order and should be here soon.
-
Got mine, Thanks Bill and Family.
Does anyone know where to get the BOM at so I can verify all parts are here without having to place on boards?

Received my SS Hub and 3 SSC's yesterday!
Fired up the smoke generator (Soldering iron) and went to work last night during a riveting show on Caligula and what mental ailments he had on NatGeo.
Needless to say, shy 1 resistor, I have mine all soldered up and ready to go!
Now I just need to order some corostars and RGB Pixels to finish it off.
Thanks for the very professional coop!
Mike.

All packages received. Thanks for all the hard work. Mind bending job. Paul

Great....
Just arrived to France....
Thanks a lot ;)

RJ, got the resistor today in the mail. Thanks for getting it out so quickly.
-
My package for the SS co-op arrived today in AUS.
Thanks very much for doing the co-op.....now on to the building !! Can't wait to fire up the test node string and flexi strip I ordered.
-
Excuse the newbish question, since this thread is not in the Closed Coop forum, does that mean some of these kits are still available?
-
No it just means everyone in the coop has not recieved them yet. Once they do the coop managers move it to closed.
The coop closes to orders after the request are posted and the rest of the post are just people that are in the coop.
Pcb's and Pigtails are avaliable you just have to order your own parts.
Pm me if you want any pcb's or pigtails.
RJ

FYI...
I just got my shipment of controllers and hub in Canada...
Bob
-
I never posted, I bought IlovetotryDiy's order and it got shipped to me. Now just need to order the lights.
-
I thought I had better give an update:
- Hubs and controllers received. ( still in the slightly squashed box ).
- Resistors received.
Postage does eventually make down to Australia. Now I just need to start putting them together.
-
Finally finished constructing my boards today.
Thanks for such an awesome coopo.
-
I received mine some time ago. Are we supposed to post that we received them? I have never heard that it was a requirement on any coop. I have not even opened the box, since I may not build them this year.
-
Nope i have never seen that either. People do it but it is not required. The Coop manager lets it go until he feels he should have heard about any issues and then moves the coop to the finished coop section.

I seem to be having some trouble with my messages so I'll post a note here. I was short one SSC PCB from the coop. I have all the rest of the parts, just not the PCB.
Thanks,

P.S. Sorry if my message went through and this is repetitive.

All remaining packages went out last Saturday July 16 2011. If you have not paid your shipping please do so or send me the tracking number.
The wife commanded that I get all the boxes out of the house.

I would like to take a moment to thank everyone who went above and beyond by sending me a tip. I would like to say thank you to all that did. Please understand that this is not needed as this is how I give back to the board. But it was nice to see.
Thanks.

Moving to finished section

I went to start putting the hub together and read on your site something about bad resistors that go with the hub. Can I get more info?
