Title: Custom wire length between nodes?

First, can we have custom wire lengths between nodes on a smart string?

If so, what would be the maximum length between the nodes?

Just wondering if I could use a node or three to light an object, then using the same smart string, light another object 10-20 ft away.

20 ft seems too far without null nodes in between. I think 7-8 feet is maximum but also pushing it without null nodes. I would suggest trial and error and the use of null nodes.
