Did you know Carol of the Bells is Ukrainian?
« on: January 25, 2012, »
Hi all;

My wife is Ukrainian. I met her through the internet 13 years ago. We have been married for 12 years now. I just went to the Ukraine this last December to visit her parents.

Did you know that the famous Carol of the Bells was written by the Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych as a correspondence course in 1904? The course required the students to use an ostinato, a repeated note phrase.

Here is an article about it

As a musician, i have always loved the primal minor third of this song. It has been re-arranged over a 100 times. Unfortunately Mykola died in 1921 and never saw the popularity of his song as it spread around the world.

thanks
