What is this?

Hi guys a friend of mine bought a truck and found this inside. Does any one have a idea what it is? There is no markings on this at all. Any ideas?

Looks like a security key for an alarm system. Usually right under the dash on the drivers side.

At one time Hotels used those for room keys. Before they went to the magnetic card system they have now.

I had a car with a similar piece. If it wasn't plugged in, the engine would shut off after about 10 minutes or so.
There was a slot on the bottom of the steering column that it plugged into.
