Antique Laptop and Etherdongle
« on: January 23, 2012, »
I have an antique laptop, 2003 Fujitsu Lifebook, XP Pro sp3, P4 2.8 Ghz, 1 GB ram. I have been using it for my show the last 2 years. . It ran vixen scheduler in 2010 and xlights this year without a problem.
I am trying to get it to work with my etherdongle. When I plug in the ED, the lights on the majijack do not light up.
I know the ED works with my wife's laptop. I can control smart strings and LEs through my hub.
I have turned off the wireless. I have tried assigning a static IP address to the lan connection, but get no lights.
It seems like the lan port is not turned on. I went in to the device manager and made sure that the computer does not turn off the device to save power.
Any ideas?

John

I am in the same situation. I used a 5 port hub and everything is great. I can not connect direct to the old machine. I am going to use a crossover tomorrow and see of it will work.

Nice shot Rick!
A crossover cable made the lights come on.
Thanks,
John

Yes the older equipment will need a crossover but as said most new stuff handles it for you so you can use a reg cable on it.
