Confused?

The etherDongle doesn't use a com port

it uses the ethernet port

When I push update port it says one isn't available. I ignore that, set my options and press transmit. Then I don't get flashing white lights from the strip. So I set my address with the USB pixel net dongle and then connect ssc to etherdongle and ssc hub.

When you set using the USB pixelnet, do you see the white flashing?  What version of SSC are you using?  V1, 2 or 3?

When you program in the address and other options. Did you move the jumper to program? and when it was done did you move it back and do a power cycle? (i.e. remove the cat5 cable and then plug in back in)

Rick R.

I could not get the above sequence to work for me. After several hours of experimenting, the only way I could program an SSC using the ED was to:
1) Move the jumper to program.
2) Set up the utility and click transmit.
3) Remove the program jumper while the utility is still transmitting.
4) Click Stop
5) Remove and re insert the Cat 5 cable.

I tried many other combinations, only the above sequence works for me.

It looks like your not using the latest ssc v3 utility software because there isn't a grouping option shown .   And if your using the ED it must be selected instead of USB dongle.

you can download the utility from the wiki, then just overwrite the executable from the previous version

In the process of programing my 4 strings i ran into another hiccup. When programing my last ssc (4th one), i realized that i am not getting any power from the hub to the ssc. I havent measured the voltage as i dont know how. I am going based of of trying my correctly programmed ssc and strings, trying the test firmware, changing CAT5 cables. I am getting no light output from the hub.

Check the last SSC for a short. You most likely have one or more blown fuses on the hub (little green blobs above each rj-45 plug)

How do I check the ssc for a short?
How do I know if the fuses are blown?
Can I use a volt meter for the above and  voltage I'm I looking for?

FYI, I used all my SSC for burn ins of about 2 hours and that worked great before. And I can't see a short, assuming a short means two wires/ connections touching each other.

A word of caution.  If you think you have a blown fuse, don't connect the SSC to another cat5 connector on the hub.  If so, you are likely to blow anther fuse.

If you have a working SSC, connect it to the hub and retest.  If it works, then you know the fuse is fine.  You can also use an Ohm meter across the green fuse to test.

Are you saying the 4th SSC was working before you tried to program it?

This is what I did.
I programmed 2 ssc correctly.
Programmed the 3rd successfully.
I installed the ssc mod firmware on 4th like others. Connected the same ssc to the hub to program the address. No lights come on during address transmittal. Reprogrammed the ssc with the test firmware as it was working before and connected it to the hub, no lights. Tried the successful 3rd ssc and good lights. No lights.

Il try and connect ssc2 to another rj45 connector and see what that does.
