if they are normal smart strings...

are they connected to the ssc correctly?  correct placement of the red, green, and blue wires? the wires on the side big chip running towards  the ssc
are the wires on the far end isolated, and not touching each other or anything else that's conductive?

the port used on the hub...   if you plugged another ssc in that place, and it works, then you didn't blow a fuse.

Ok. So I have 3 blown fuses. Tried on a good rj45 connection and all is well. Now how to I fix the ssc that caused the shorts?

start with this...

is the pigtails wires attached to the pcb out of order?

from the wiki...
1 - White with Orange Stripe

2 - Orange

3 (Positive)
White with Blue Stripe
Blue
White with Green Stripe

4 (Ground)

White with Brown Stripe

Your also the man Chris. Pigtails are incorrect. Mixed the white and brown stripe with white and green stripe. Thank you all for the great support.

Yeah, somehow I got my conductor working. When you post a question about it, as well as others I will try my best to also help out. As they say, pay it forward.

With that mixup I wouldn't be terribly surprised if there wasn't some issues with either the SSC's or the first nodes connected to them as well.

as far as fixing the fuses.   you can heat up the contacts to remove the bad one(s)

some people attach the fuse from the bottom which is acceptable.

i still attach mine from the original side.

Luckly i only have 4 ssc's running this year. So in the off season i will replace the bad  fuses. The problem was the mix up on the pigtails. All programed and ready to go. Now i need to figure out my problem for my aether, but that is on another thread :)

for future troubleshooting, put a piece of tape over the affected ports, so you remember which ones are an issue.

that way you're not scratching your head trying to figure out what went wrong the next time you work with the equipment.  :)

I'd put an "uncrimped" RJ-45 end into the jack. Tape residue holds dirt. (I keep a bin of them around, anyway)

edit - it would actually be better to use an RJ-45 that has been crimped. The crimp process pushes down the 8 contact surfaces to the normal height. An uncrimped one might stress the wires more than I'd like.
As Chris said below, a cut off cable end would be perfect. Just carefully trim the wires to avoid shorting.

^^^  good idea, and a use for those cut off ends of the pigtails.  (make sure not to have any shorting ends{could still affect the data lines})
