Greetings,,,

Are the onboard leds staying on, or the ac outputs, or both?

In other words, do you have stuck triacs?  Or may need to reflash the firmware.

the leds are not on the plugs have 120V when tested

Greetings,,,

If those 3 channels have 120 output, but the corresponding leds on the board aren't on, you want to unplug and check for solder connections in the wrong places around the triacs and the areas going to the 3 problem ones...

If you had a short on these outputs when you powered it up then it is possible that you fried those triacs.  If you are sure that the solder connections look good then pull the isolator chips form those channels and see what happens.  If those channels are still on then the triacs are probably toast.

I am afriad he is correct. If the circuit was shorted out then they were likely damaged. I hope not and you find something simple. Let us know so we can help.

You can and in fact probably just did.  One of the ways a triac fails is to short out which appears to be what happened here.  When they short out they conduct all of the time even when no gate voltage exists.  One thing to look at is your solder connections on the bottom of the 180 ohm resistors on those channels.  Those connections are very close to the main power trace and if you have any bridging there at all you will lock those triacs on even if the isolators are removed.

If you don't have one. I suggest that you buy a radio shack desolder iron. It works great and its cheap.

$10.99

Sorry you had problems with the triac and pcb

I hate to hear that!

I always recommend to users to cut the triac off leaving the three legs sticking up and then remove on at a time. Lots of heat for short time and pul it out easily with needle nose.

I thought you were still testing.

I've burned a few spots trying to use copper braid. Now I use a vacuum solder sucker, but you have to be fast to hit the "suck" button before the solder goes solid again. Cutting off the TRIAC so that you only heat the leads is a good idea.

I use the radio shack model and found that normally the parts will fall out of the PCB once de-soldered.

I agree with Bill. I have the RadioShack one and it works fine for this.
