*********************************************************************************

Here is the pricing breakdown based on the initial quotes.
Pricing is in US Dollars and includes PayPal and Coop fees.

We have a base goal of 50 kits. This goal allows the cost per unit to drop low enough to make it cost effective to run the coop. Below this number we will not make the order.

Kit 1 - Lynx Express V5 Kit With PCB, parts and heatsink.
Per Kit At Qty 50 - $81.06**
Per Kit At Qty 100 - $71.55**
Per Kit At Qty 150 - $67.46**

Kit 2 – Lynx Express v5 PCB and Heat Sink
Per Kit At Qty 50 - $21.32**
Per Kit At Qty 100 - $18.78**
Per Kit At Qty 150 - $17.32**

Kit 3 – Parts Only. No PCB or Heat Sink
Per Kit At Qty 50 - $59.94**
Per Kit At Qty 100 - $52.98**
Per Kit At Qty 150 - $50.34**

This is an estimate. As always higher numbers reduce pricing and lower numbers increase pricing.

** THIS PRICE DOES NOT INCLUDE SHIPPING WHICH YOU WILL HAVE TO ADD TO THE COST OF THE COOP TO RECEIVE YOUR ORDER.

*********************************************************************************

Shipping will be by US Postal Service Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes. All orders will require at least a medium flat rate box since the kits will not fit in a smaller box.  A Medium Box will fit up to 6 kit orders of the Lynx Express.  If you are ordering more equipment, please PM me for shipping details and additional shipping rates may apply.

Shipping Charges: for the “Medium” flat rate box with PayPal fees. (In US Dollars)
Domestic: $12.65
Canada: $42.25
All Others: $61.75

If you are not in the US, please send me a PM so I can send you the correct amount to pay.

If you wish to have insurance on your package it is your responsibility to choose the amount and look up the cost to add. You must add this to your PayPal payment and in the comments explain you paid for insurance and how much. We cannot be held responsible for your package once accepted at the post office and we have a receipt of shipment if it is not insured.

*********************************************************************************

Post with the quantity you wish in this thread.  Please do not post questions or your thoughts in the coop thread. Start a new thread in the correct area for these. Coop threads are strictly for people requesting orders. If you later wish to change your quantity please post again clearly stating that this is an update to a previous order and how many you wish it to be now.

If you have any questions, send me a PM.

Thanks,
John

This may be a silly question, but are these v5.0 or v5.1 PCB's.  I assume they would be v5.1 but want to confirm.
I think the v5.1's have mount holes that line up in the new CG-1500's, while the v5.0 have mount holes that line up in the old CG-1500's.  Is this correct?

Kit 1 - Lynx Express V5 Kit With PCB, parts and heatsink. You will receive all the parts you need to build a complete Lynx Express v5.
This is my first Coop.  I have a quick question.  When you say, "complete Lynx Express", am I correct in thinking "complete" is nonetheless limited to just a fully functional board?  The housing, power cords, and mounting hardware have to be purchased separately?

Yes, you are correct.  If you choose kit 1 you will get the PCB, all components to be placed on the PCB and the heatsink and you will provide the enclosure and extension cords.

Update.
Situations beyond our control have caused this coop to stall. The machinist that makes the heat sinks has been very sick and has not been able to produce them. I apologize for the delay and promise that as soon as they are finished we will ship them out. RJ is on top of the situation and he is doing everything he can.
We appreciate your patience.
If you have any questions, send me a PM.

John
Title: Re: Lynx Express v5 Coop - Closed for Orders
Post by: RJ on June 12, 2015,
I normally do not post in a coop managers coop, but the situation requires some details that I have and the manager does not.

The machinist that creates the express heatsinks for me fell very ill after receiving the metal, cutting it and beginning the machining. He does them for us between other work and this is how we get them done for such a good cost. After a few weeks of being ill and seeing a doctor he returned to work and once on his feet for a few hours would have to go home. After a little longer than a week of this he collapsed at work one day. He then was hospitalized with a rare case of a resistant viral infection. He was treated, released and required to remain home resting for a week. After this time he returned to work very weak and went back to work on the awaiting projects only to become very weak again after a few days of working a couple of hours each day. He worked on projects including ours and finished a small number of our items. But then fell ill again and was rushed to the hospital.

The cycle of rest, work, ill, hospital happened a second time. This time at the hospital it was decided that the only option for treatment was to do chemotherapy to try and save his life since the virus is antibiotic resistant. He is now home and has been assigned a home health nurse to care for him. He is very weak and he is having other issues from the chemo at this point. As you can see this has been an ongoing issue for months and each time he felt he would be ok in a week or two and would finish up our heatsinks for us.

I spoke with his Sister who runs the other part of the family business (injection molding company) yesterday and once he is a little better we are going to see if there is someway I can get the ones that are done and maybe hand finish the others. this is his sister and my plans, as he told her he would get them right out as soon as he is strong enough to return to work. She tells me he is being a little optimistic as to how long it might be before this could really happen, and that he is really sick and they are very worried about him.

First please put him in your prayers, and second know that I am sorry for the delay and working to get the heatsink to the coop manager so he can finish your kits. At this the coop manager only needs these heatsinks to send your kits out so the delay is in no way because of him.

Once I have the heatsinks done they will be sent to the anodizer in Orlando which is normally a short couple of days turn around.

RJ

RJ,

For me.....

Please thank the machinist for his contribution for me for making my display as good as it is. Without his hard work I would not have the display I now have.

As far as I am concerned (and I am sure the rest of DLA members agree) he should take as much time as he needs to get well. He should not concern himself with anything else other then to make a complete recovery.

Please let him know he is included in my prayers.

My prayers with the machinist as well.  For me, if they are bent and anodized I can drill them with a good template, I have the gear to drill and tap where I need.  May take a little pressure off you RJ getting them done.

what a crazy world we live in.  i wish the best for the machinist and his family.

cheers.
Title: Re: Lynx Express v5 Coop - Closed for Orders
Post by: lrhorer on June 16, 2015,
My first concern is for the machinist.  Not only for his health, which is paramount, but also for his feelings, which can actually impact his health.  The thing is, it is hard to know if the remaining work looms over him as worrisome unfinished business of which he would gladly be free, or if taking the work elsewhere would make him feel he had failed, lending itself to depressed feelings.  For myself, I would probably tend more toward the latter.  With that in mind, I would be hesitant to suggest he give up the work - and of course there is no question he should be paid more than fairly for his time.  I am not in a tearing hurry at this point, although if this drags out more than another 60 days or so, I might say we would have to ask him to give in to pragmatism.  Until then, I would be willing to wait for him to recover and even then not press him for output.  On the other hand, if he feels he would rather not have to worry with the project right now, then I am not unwilling to face a reasonable premium to have the work done elsewhere.  Either way, I would like to make it clear to him this is not something he needs to fret at this time.
Title: Re: Lynx Express v5 Coop - Closed for Orders
Post by: eyearedan on June 22, 2015,
if it helps, I will be happy to pay the additional postage to have them shipped later.  That way he will know everyone is getting their parts and be building and can install the heat sink later.

You kinda need the heat sink in place in order to properly position the triacs before soldering them in.

The heat sinks are for the 12volt option only correct? The 12volt option, from my understanding, can be added at a later time. I personally don't need the 12 volt option at this time, just added it for future options. I,too, would be willing to pay a bit more to ship the heat sinks later so I can get the main boards now. I just need time to assemble, test, and integrate them.
Title: Re: Lynx Express v5 Coop - Closed for Orders
Post by: tbone321 on June 22, 2015,
You must be thinking of the smart string hub.  The Express has no such option.  It is a 120V controller AC controller and the heat sink is use to keep the Triacs temp (all 16 of them) under control.  The heat sink is an integral part of the device and cannot be easily added later and unless all you intend to dim are low current LED strings, assembling the device without it is a really bad idea.  Another thing to consider is that you would be doubling the amount of shipping work for the coop manager who is doing this for free as it is.

Ok update,

Mike is still very ill, they got someone to come in a help out and he is finishing the last of them today. They will go in the tumbler for a day and I will get them. They will be sent to the anodized and that normally takes a week including shipping time.

So the issue is getting resolved. I went out to see if I could pick them up to finish myself this morning and this is what I found out instead.

The heat sinks showed up this afternoon. I will start packaging tomorrow. Some kits will go out tomorrow but I am leaving Friday for a couple of days. The rest will go out Monday and Tuesday.
Thanks to all of you for your patience.

Update.
Some packages went out today. I updated the list on the first page of this thread.
I cannot ship through paypal. They remove the shipping option after 90 days and I have to manually create the shipping labels so most of you won't get an email with the tracking number.
I will be shipping the rest of the packages on Monday and Tuesday.

No, if he doesn't want to broadcast any details of his situation, then we must respect his wishes, and merely keep him in our esteem without knowing.  Either way, I hope he will take heart from knowing we are both grateful to him and concerned for his well being.

Must have been out of stock. Is there an substitute part number for extra time?

Thanks again.

Started to build today and found the the holes for the connector strip are to small for the connector to fit in, am I the only one having a problem?

I got mine last weekend and spent about 3 hours building it.  All seems to be working, except I didn't have a way to actually check DMX operation.  I need a pair of connectors for a wireless module.  Once I get those, I will finish the board, install it in a case, add the wireless module, and attach all the power connectors.  At that point I'll check the board for complete operation.

I'm a happy camper!

Oh, and BTW, rainlover, you sent me an extra 6-32 screw.  I feel rich.  Unless, of course, you want to send me $0.35 so I can put a stamp on an envelope and mail it back to you.   >:D

Are you sure?  They are a bit tight, for certain, but I got them to fit.  I had to tap on them a bit with a pair of pliers to get them to seat into the holes, but with a little care and persistence I got them to seat fully.  Don't hammer hard on them, though.  If you really whallop them, you risk breaking the connector or the board.  A few firm raps with the board solidly sitting squarely on the desk with the holes barely clear of the edge of the desk is all it took.

IF you ordered multiple kits, try another set of strips. I have had this issue in the past, and it appears it is variations in the pins on the connector strip, not the size of the pc board holes. I just experienced it this morning with a set of strips from the current co-op shipment, grabbed another set of strips left over from a previous express build, and they fit fine.
Title: Re: Lynx Express v5 Coop - Closed for Orders
Post by: peteywhit on August 05, 2015,
With the alignment of the connectors, I always start on one end and work my way to the other if they don't slide straight in.

The pins sometimes aren't exact and move around, whereas the holes on the board are designed to the specs of the data sheet of the part.

Out of 4 that I have built so far, I've gotten all of them to fit.

Hope that helps.
Blake

Its not an alignment issue..its a pin diameter issue.

I built probably 10 boards before I ran into the problem.

If you assume the holes in the board to be consistent, which logic tells you they would be, the variable is the pin diameter for the connector strips, my guess is, the tolerances exceed the board hole size. And being that I have found variations in those strips, that pretty much confirms it.

The quick fix is:

1. try a different set...and since they come apart, you can pin it down (no pun intended) to the exact offenders.

2. use a small drill to (slightly) increase the board hole size.

Long term, increasing the hole size on the board for future runs, is the best fix.
Title: Re: Lynx Express v5 Coop - Closed for Orders
Post by: tbone321 on August 05, 2015,
You would actually be better off filing down the pins.  Drilling the board is a bad idea.  The copper traces are thin and drilling out the holes can tear the trace from the board if the bit starts to get dull and the board material can quickly dull a HSS drill.  IIRC, the holes are also plated and drilling them can remove this plating and also can cause the traces to tear.

Hence my first suggestion...
Title: Re: Lynx Express v5 Coop - Closed for Orders

(sent before finishing my thought)...in the time spent filing, you can insert a new set...
Title: Re: Lynx Express v5 Coop - Closed for Orders

tbone is correct. I've looked at all 7 of mine now that you brought this up and all of mine fit, however some pins feel like they have a burr or are larger at the tip. I would try filing the pins before drilling out the holes or before ordering new connectors. Especially if you don't have spares laying around.

Valid point. I was fortunate to have extras. Would be curious to hear from anyone who went the filing route and how much effort they put into it before they achieved a fit.
Title: Re: Lynx Express v5 Coop - Closed for Orders

My first thought was to drill but do to the plating in the hole I knew that was not a good idea.  My thought is that it is the plating on the pins or just poor tolerance in the manufacture.  I don't have extras so Ill try the file and gently push them in.  I was just checking to see if I was the only one having a problem.
Title: Re: Lynx Express v5 Coop - Closed for Orders
Post by: DonFL on August 07, 2015,
My bad on the drilling suggestion, didn't think that all the way thru.

Out of 5 kits, I have at least 2 sets that are a problem, and no spares left. Looks like I will also be doing some work on the pins to see if that can easily solve the issue.
Title: Re: Lynx Express v5 Coop - Closed for Orders
Post by: tbone321 on August 07, 2015,
This has happened in the past and drilling was suggested then as well.  One other idea that worked for a few of us was the hot / cold method.  Put the connectors in the freezer and let them get cold.  When they are down to freezer temp, heat up the board around the connector mount point with a heat gun or even a hair dryer and see if the connector fits.  It will still be tight and in some cases it still may not fit but it is easy to try with nothing to lose.

Same problem here, tried two different sets of connectors, pins to large I am going to try some sand paper to work on the pins I will post my results, all in all the board is very nice to work with, I found soldering to be easy with lots of access on each pin. Lets just hope we can solve the pin issue quickly.

We before and at least with that incident if I remember right some of the connector pins were larger for some reason. Even with it being the same part numbers. I believe we added a few thousands to the next pcb layout to try to prevent it but it apparently is not enough. Its strange as with the tens of thousands if them we have done it has only been certain coops that had this issue. I guess next time we order them I will increase the hole size again.

I found by using a bastard file it took me about ten minutes to modify the pins, taking extra precaution not to break any of the pins

Thanks

The connector strips are the green pieces and they each have 16 pins.

Wow today was interesting, seemed every hole was too small, started at 1 pm it is now 5 pm not done yet, had to file down the 5 volt and 3 volt regulators, every single one of the leds did not seat either. every chip socket was a pita, pretty sure I have some that won't work.
Only two more boards to go I am definitely going to try each piece to make sure they fit, the first board I did the only thing tight was the connector strips,  I am hoping it was just a bad board.  >:(

Don, here I thought I was the only one. I had the same issue on my first board of five. 6 pin sockets were all to big, got them in but it was a fight. Triacs, 5V and 3V all had to be filed down.Aand as you said the LED's would not sit flush. I was expecting the green power connectors to act up so i had pre-emptively taken the dremel to those.

Now this was the first board I had ever done so I thought it was just me. Kinda glad to see others had the same problems.

I don't mind shaving the triacs and 3/5 volt pins or having the led sit a little high, but the 6 pin sockets were the biggest pain.

Anyone have any hints on those?

Thanks,
Richard
