Title: Configuration verification
Post by: rimist on April 19, 2012,
For the pond lighting I asked about in another thread, would it work to use a USB dongle configured for pixelnet connected directly to a 4 port passive hub that is injected with power to the SSC (or SSC2) to three waterproof, turtle proof fixtures made with square pixels?

Not sure if you are supposed to do it that way, but I have tried it that way and it worked fine.  I only used them that way for testing, but it should work.

i'm not 100% percent sure if that's ok to do or not, but mark your cables well, b/c if you happen to plug the cat5 cable from your eD into the powered side of the hub by mistake, you're sure to have zapped your eD.

Since he is not using an ED that shouldn't be an issue.  Since he is using a USB dongle, he cannot connect the wrong pins to power unless he uses the wrong type of cable such as a crossover cable.  While the 4 port hub was not creatd with this use in mind, it should work just fine for this specific configuration.
