Wireless field strength meter

(1/1)

Since it appears that wireless is imminent how about someone comes up with a small field strength meter for the wireless so that you can move around and make sure that the signal will be received.  Something on the order of net sniffer for wireless network  altough there are probably better examples.

Greetings,,,

Quickest way you might be able to easily test it, or at least one way, would be to start a sequence, maybe a special, easy to see sequence.  Send the signal out to one receiver.  Then use that receiver to connect to a second transmitter in repeater mode, on a second universe.  Pick up that signal where you are transmitting from initially.  Then connect up to a LE, etc.

So, you would actually be testing two transmitters and receivers at the same time.  Double the test for the same distance.

You could then set back in your living room, office, etc., and watch at your leisure, looking for issues.  That would give you real world info without building anything extra, for those who want a quick check that things are working, even during their show, which may be out of sight.

The MRF24J40  can report both RSSI and LQI, so it should be easy to make it using the same module that RJ is using...

RJ:
I can do it easy enough but why would you not stick a unit there and see if it works? It would save money and give you a more real world test as every unit works a little different and need more or less signal. IE the EX/RX will not have the range a standalone receiver does.
