VW Bugs - On the treffen run
« on: August 16, 2013, »
My Son (who is 18) just completed the Treffen 15 Run, which started in Blaine, WA and ran all the way down to San Diego to the Mexican border.

Dan joined the Convoy in Fort Bragg, CA and ran with all the other Aircooled VW Bugs (over 8 days) down to San Diego and then drove back to Sacramento. In total he drove about 1600 miles in a 1958 Bug.

brings back memories. In the 70's i had a 54 bug. This is the one with round rear window and turn indicator arms that come out the side.

was fun

From 1978-1997 I owned a 1977 Super Beetle convertible. Had lousy luck with engines: I think I burned out three.

It was twice totaled: first time when I rear-ended someone -- not my fault (yeah, I know, always the guy in the back's fault) -- and second time when it was stolen and the idiots cut the entire wiring harness out to steal a $50 radio/cassette player I had cleverly hidden in the glove box. The insurance company just wrote me a check for the Blue Book value and I pored the money into the guy I had who took care of it for me.

Got a new Beetle in '97 and have had three of them since.

Love them Bugs but I miss the sound of the air-cooled engine.

A member of my haunt club has a one of the Herbie's (the love bug) complete with a authenticity plaque from Disney.  He got it when he worked at Disney.
