WOW! These are cheap!!!!
« on: August 02, 2012, »
I know these are not compatible with our stuff, but with 60 LEDs per meter and at 72 cents a meter I just thought it was too good to not share with everyone! You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

the strips are compatible with DSCs and with MR16s.  Each channel can control a separate strip.

as 12v strips you can use a 12v controller.  these are not RGB, however.  but they are single color (white).

I wonder why they are not dimmable?

I wonder why they are not dimmable?
Should there be a comma in there? Why they are so cheap? Or why they are not dimmable? They can't be so bad I see someone bought over 600 of them in 4 different orders and the feedback is all positive which is not unusual, but I would think that if they were bad someone would give negative feedback? I did just notice the color is warm white, maybe that is why they are so cheap? Kevr let us know how you make out with them.

I think they would be great for projects where you don't need dimming capability.

I wonder why they are not dimmable?

I would say that's due to the what they are using for the current control.  The ones with simple resistors are easily dimmable but are also subject to voltage fluctuations.  These are probably using current regulators and voltage fluctuations do not really effect them.  The down side is that these current regulators try and maintain the current flow that they were set to regardless of the voltage and since LED's are current sensitive devices, they will not dim this way.  Another down side is that some of these current control chips can be damaged by voltages outside of there limits and this is both high and low limits so attempting to dim some of these strips can actually damage them.

is might be a copy/paste error by the vendor also, i'd ask them to make sure...

from the looks of their photo, where it says they can cut every 3 led's, it looks like just 3 white leds, plus a resistor.  but, that could also be a copy/paste error as well.

ask, ask, ask!

For outdoors you want ip68. Ip65 won't withstand rain.
