Nice!
I have never been a blowmold guy, but I really like the soldiers guarding the walkway. The colors are so bright.
You are lucky you had dry weather.
Now it's RJ's turn to post some pictures.

I don't except to see any setup pictures from RJ. He likes to dazzle us with everything lit and running

Look really nice. Newbie question: what are the short posts in the ground on either side of the walk way for? Inquiring minds want to know.

      Thanks, Keith :)

Hi Keith,

They are rebar which I have 16 pvc trees that goes on top (currently 2 colors, hoping to convert to Smart String) and 4 light arches.

Here is a shot of the trees last year before the snow storm hit

Here I was thinking it was an elaborate booby trap type of impaler to stop people from seeing "how it is set up" before it is done and the added bonus of stopping solicitors  ;D

On a side note, nice set up and it will be cool to see how it comes together along with Bill's.

Man that looks sweeeeet!! I have also been thinking (ok dreaming and drooling) about smart strings. I have an idea taken from the grinch using the smart strings to look like I am shooting lights onto the house. This will of course be for next year. Thanks again, Keith

Hi Folks

The wife woke me up early today. So I could work on the light show before the rain started. I guess I am done for today since its still raining and we have to get ready to her parents house for dinner.

Here is today's progress. Nothing is powered up yet but getting close.

Hi Folks,

I tested all 16 of my micro trees before setting them outside. Today I power up the trees (the first 9) and of course Tree #1 has no red lights. So far I have 2 LE running and the Freestyle. I still have the whole roof to do, maybe tomorrow.

Hi Folks,

Two pics with some of the lights on. Just using 50% power while setting up. After I took these shots, I did get the other right side arches lit and the nativity scene.

Still have the roof to work on. Along with more stuff on the house.

Hi Folks,

Been testing my lights and controllers. To be honest I still have a few more things to put up yet  <fp.

Btw: Tonight everything worked perfectly. My Lynx Dongle, Lynx Expresses, Lynx Freestyle, SSR4s, SSR4-DMXs and the lights.

Once I get the last bit done and button up the sequences it will be Show Time  ;D

Here is a few pictures with the lights about 60% on. I promise you the micro trees are Red and Green. My camera makes them look purple.

Hi Folks,

Today the weather is taking its real first shots at my display

We have a Wind Advisory today along with heavy rain.

The tall choir girl next to the nativity scene has already fallen over. I just added a pole to support her.

Concern about the LE on the back of the roof and did I miss anything while setting up????

Great job Rick! I love the walk up to the house...you have such a nice layout, everything looks really neat and in it's proper place. The first big wind blew threw central Florida last night too and shook up some of my stuff, but it's calmed down now so I've got to get back at it and get my show set up. I'm so out of time.

Mike, I have been working hard to get the show layout even and neat, for years it was very heavy on the left side with just the Nativity on the right side. Many thanks for noticing

Hi Rick

Yes you did miss something

1 - The rope light little train and Santa sled were not staked down
2- One walkway Blown Mold was missing a screw to secure it to the 4x4

The roof lights, most are now not a straight line.

Overall Not a too bad of a job.

All the lights worked just fine in the wind and rain last night (Dec 1, 2010)
Xlights started and stopped the show at the required times

ok, I dug this post out of the pile.  ;D

I finally was able to edit my first video of the season. I have more to do but here is Music box Dancer 2010

I decide not to use the HD upload since I can only do it once a week and it take so much space. The video's this year is shot with my Nikon Coolpix P-100 on a tri-pod of course. The show starts around 5pm so there was some daylight at the beginning. Hope you like it.

The camera?
I will have to check the setting tonight. I know I set the focus to manual so it wouldn't try to keep changing since the camera and display don't move. The rest I will check on.

Working on When Christmas comes to town video at the moment. Some days at work are tough, there is also a Holiday Party at noon for the employees.

Rick,

I got 46,000 lights across 420 channels (or something like that). So when I saw what you did I loved it. This is one of those ideas you just got to take and run with. You did a great job on it Rick, I just want to take a shot at seeing what is would like to run out the whole 2 minute sequence...... Then I could add a fog machine and several Aethers for a really bright light. OK, I'm not going that far.

That would be so cool. You have to go for it. I fully believe that a hobby is suppose to be FUN. Without having fun why do it?

I have no idea how many lights I use and I am just slightly more that half of your channels. Then again channel count goes crazy with the SS. Hmmmmm, Smart Strings and Close Encounters..........

hehehe, the encounters mp3 was made to ROCK

Unless software catches up quickly I don't see doing the micro trees in node mode. I think they would be in string mode.

Just a small update

Last night I had some family members stop by to watch my show. My dad, my sister her son and my sister's best friend and her family. I have known the friend since she was 3 yrs old. We all stood out in the below freezing cold and watch the show. Tonight I was at my parents house for a party and my wife's brother and family watch the show along with one of my co-worker and her dog. Its not much but at least I have somebody watching the show and not just some drive-bys. Last night while standing in the cold I notice micro tree 5 half of the green lights were out. I got that fixed today in the day light (one socket was not making contact with the light bulb). So far the roof has been solid no flashing since I installed 3 c7 lights. Just really happy with the Lynx hardware and xLights this year.

Cheers

My wife loves that song

The arches are 10' grey pvc 3/4"
The rebar anchors is 6' spacing with a height of 41"
I use 7 strings of 100ct lights (I just like a center top set of lights)

Hi Joe

Thanks I like my micro trees also. Currently they have two set of lights on them red and green with 100 ct mini lights each. I really don't know how many nodes I will need for each tree. But I do plan to test one tree once I get some nodes from the SS coop when that starts.

Hi Folks

Been thinking of what to do tonight. Well I finally have a plan (better late than never :))

So I plan is to run my show like normal until 11pm and then switch over to the Nativity display and play some music. I just joined music from a cd into one mp3. The cd is called Christmas Classics all done by the New York Symphony Orchestra.

Playlist:
The First Noel
God Rest Y Merry Gentlemen
Silent Night
O Holy Night
Hark the Herald Angles Sing
Away In the Manger
O Little Town of Bethlehem
Joy to the World

I will play the music though the speakers all night and into Christmas day. Christmas Night the show takes over again.

I hope it works :)

Cheers

Rick,

Here is a link to the Close Encounters Video I promised to pass on to you

Close Encounters of the Third Kind - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kln-HIeKWxc (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kln-HIeKWxc)

I got about half of it sequenced and didn't get back to it, so this is nothing but a repeat of what you did. Hopefully by next year I'll get the whole 2 minutes done.

I went back and watched your videos and I must say I really like the way you use your arches and the way they flow. I played with mine over and over but they were choppy. I'm planning on more section to them next year so hopefully they will act more like what I see in yours

Kinda of sad today, its the last scheduled show for the year

Oh well

I been writing down ideas and things to improve for next year.
Simple things like making sure the connections are water tight for next year. Believe it or not one night I lost some lights with the gfci outlet tripping after the snow storm, of course it was the night my mom and sisters and their kids were over to watch the show. I was standing outside talking to them while they were in their vehicle (about 10 of them) and notice some darkness. I reset the outlet and it work a few minutes and tripped again. Since that night its been find. Murphy's law I guess. The LE will not be on the roof next year. So I need another spool of cord. The controllers for the arches, shorten the cords since the plugs are all together next to the controller it will clean up the yard some.

Anyone thinking how to sequence RGB channels??
I don't even think you can do a preview of it.

Just some basic stuff

Cheers and thanks for letting me ramble on

Rick R.
