Title: CAT5 connection
Post by: Freebird on December 01, 2010,
Quick question.  I cut and made a CAT5 cable too short.  Do I have to hook the CAT5 cable in order of channels?  I mean, can I first go from LE 1  (wireless, channels 1-16)  then hard wire to LE 3 ( channels 33-48) then to LE 2 (channels 17-32) ?

Yes you can.  DMX doesn't care which device sees the signal first because all devices see the entire signal, and then pick off what is theirs.

You can put them in any order, except the terminator jumper has to be on the last one.

Perfect thanks.   So if you do not have any daisy chain leaving the LE then that has to be terminated.  like in the diagram below.  Correct?

you would just need to terminate the last 2 that dont have any more cat5 going out I think

Your diagram is correct.  The easy rule for the express is that any unit that does not have a cable pluggeg into DMX OUT 1 needs to have its terminator set on.  The only possible exception to this rule is an Express that has the wireless daugher board connected to it.
