Title: Animatronics Begun
Post by: kgustafson on June 15, 2011,
Now that I have all my blinky done (well until the Aether IIs come out!) I switched gears towards my servo stuff.

I got it to work right out of the bag (which surprised me) and now I have the ability to drive 8 servos.  My punch list for halloween is getting smaller.  Is anyone else doing any animated skulls or the like for halloween?  I was wondering if anyone has a good design for neck/head movement (I figured 2 degrees of motion - tilt front/back and turn left/right)?  I know how to animate the skull for moving the jaw and may add eye movement as well (I found a great design, but fabrication looks a bit daunting.)

Scroll through this post for some information on 3-axis skulls:

Triaxial Skull Labs has also come out with a new type of 3- axis called a Twisty Skull. I believe that ctmal is building one from scratch but kits are available here:

If you need the how-to pdf for the original Twisty from the Garage of Evil, I can send it to you.  Just let me know.
