Today at 3:01 AM my wife gave birth to our second child, another boy ;) Joshua Robert Smith
weighing 7lbs 8oz and 19 1/4 inches long.
Things were a little scary at first as he swallowed a lot of fluid on the way out. Baby and mama are doing just fine now.
Anyone guess were we got the middle name from?

If he's anything like my 4mo old, he'll love sitting on your lap sequencing for hours at a time! :)

Just wanted to give you all an update and if you are praying people please do so we would appreciate it.
Baby Joshua update:
It's looking like Joshua didn't have a seizure. What the nurses saw was his body stiffen for around 10 seconds and wasn't sure if it was the end of a seizure or what. They have run multiple tests and so far everything has come back negative. They were supposed to do a brain ultrasound last night, but we haven't heard if it was completed or not or what the results were. They believe, at this point, what was seen was Joshua straightening/stiffening to breathe. They were going to do a spinal tap to check for menegitis, but at the moment have decided not to do it, unless things change.
Conditions that they have diagnosed Joshua with so far are a cleft palate, retracted lower jaw, & retracted tongue. This is what they believe has caused all the breathing issues. This is also causing major feeding issues. He is currently on an NG (nasal/gastro) feeding tube. Because of what he has been diagnosed with they have told us that he will never be able to efficiently nurse (if he's even able to) or bottle feed efficiently. He will have to have special bottles to even eat. He will be trying that today. As soon as he has learned how to eat, he should be able to go home. They are thinking the absolute earliest he could go home is Tuesday, possible worse case scenario is about a month.
They have called in a geneticist that will see Joshua today, because they discoverd he has an extra set of ribs, 13 pair, instead of 12. They are looking into another possibility as well that affects his eyes. They have also called in 2 other specialists, but I don't remember what they do....I'm on information overload at the moment.
This will be a lifelong process requiring surgeries, speech pathologists, specialized doctors, speech therapists, among other things. Please pray that through all this that God will get the Glory. John 9:1-5 has been the scripture that many people have been impressed to tell us about.

My Wife and I hope for the best for your little one. My Wife was born with a cleft, after 8 surgeries over many years, you can't even tell. It's been 20 years since her last surgery. Doctors today are very good. I believe your little man will be just fine. We even collect money for Smile Train with our display each year. Good luck and God Bless.

I shared Joshua's story with my wife. We are, and will be, praying for him and for you and for your family.
On a lighter note, I fully expected to see at least one string of lights somewhere in that picture of your new son. :)

LOL, there has been many hours of programming done in the hospital so far. Hope that counts!
