Title: Fried triac or opto
Post by: devoidelk on November 16, 2012,
I had a rain the other day and a channel is stuck on without data. I`m sure its the triac or opto going to switch optos around to see if thats it. But i was wondering is there anyway to disable that channel to allow me to still run my show minus the affected channel?

have you tried to see if resetting the express helps?

you could always just disconnect what is attached to that channel

Easy test, pull the opto for that channel (with the Express unplugged) and then see if the channel still stays on. (I would recommend doing this after your try reseting the Express first) If it goes out replace the opto, if it stays on replace the triac.

Normally I would say a triac without a hesitation.  However, I had a controller the other day that stuck of a while and then started working normal.  I will say it was weird but so far it appears to be fine.

I always keep triacs and extra controller on hand just in case a hot swap is necessary.  It's also nice to keep an extra channel free here and there just in case you need to change the sequence and use a different channel.

I'd also pull the board and look for some conductive schmutz around the triac or opto, though it could even be condensation.

chok this up to condensation making a bridge let it dry off and worked fine...

This indicates that the board also dirty and needs to be cleaned.  Some corrosion X or even WD40 would help to prevent this as well.

wd40 i can do my case isn't the approved case so i have to do some adjustments to make sure this doesn't happen again.
