I am trying to set a starting address on a MR 16. It wont take an address.
I decided to try to re flash the pic with a pickit 3. I have the correct 20a adaptor. I have the dot of the pic lined up with the 18 arrow on the adaptor. I selected the 18f1220 pic on the pickit program drop down box.
No matter what I try, I keep getting a "no device detected".
What am I missing here, can someone tell me? Are any of the jumpers supposed to be used with 20 a adaptor? I am at a loss...

try:
tools->check communication
It is the pickit that it cannot communicate with.

click the mark to apply power to the pic.
if it's the pic i'm thinking of, it should be programmed and set for channel 1

Tried this it says found pickit 3 and the serial number. I then try read, write, erase etc...
and get no device found.

Not sure what you mean by click the mark.

There is a check box that tells the pickit that it needs to supply the power for the pic you want to program. IF this is the pickit utility then it is to the right hand side of the window.
Also, forgive me for asking but is the notch indicating pin 1 pointing in the right direction (towards the ICSP header)?

That is checked. Are the jumpers that come with the adapter supposed to be used?
Talking about the dgdgfd...etc..
-
all the D jumpers should be used, and nothing else
-
just to double check...
is the board the ISCP20, or the ISCP20A

I didn't have any jumpers installed. Installing d jumpers now.
I am sure that was the issue.
Thank you guys.. 8)

Just out of curiosity, where is it mentioned that the d jumpers must be used? Or is that a given for using this adapter? <fp.

if you click on the adapter name, it takes you to a page where the adapter is being sold on ebay, with the guide in the description
