Title: Etherdongle COOP
Post by: tstewart on July 27, 2013,
Just wanted to post here also that the current Etherdongle COOP will close tomorrow night (Sunday 7/28).  Case only options have been added so if you are looking for just the case with cutouts already made you should join the COOP.

Thanks

Todd

Anyone know if the power supply will be included in the etherdongle COOP that just closed or if the PICs will be programmed?

Not a big deal either way, was just curious.

The power supply is usually included in these. The PICS will not be programmed. There are 2 different firmwares depending on whether you are wanting DMX only or if you want Pixelnet. You will need a Pickit 3 to program it. There will not be a checksum but you can watch the change in the large white box under program memory for the change to see if the flash took. And remember to check the target power on box and to use the original stand alone utility found in the WIKI and not the Beta or MPLAB programs.

Just to add what Keith said,

There is no way to pre-program (Flash) the pic on the EtherDongle until the other parts are added to the board. Since the pic is surface mounted as opposed to say the LE where the pic can be put on a adapter and program it. RJ gets the pcb built and then (normally) he solders the EtherDongle pic to the pcb before the coop manager gets the board or he could have the factory put the pic on the pcb there but that adds to the cost of the pcb.

Hope that helps

I left out the most obvious reason just in case J1sys invents a surface mount socket adapter in the future. Yeah, yeah thats it  ;D

It won't matter unless all members can surface solder parts to the pcb. I know some members can but not the majority.
