Title: vixen not responding?
Post by: duane.mosley on November 13, 2013,
why would vixen not respond on certain sequences when loading a .vir file? I can load the said .vir file into a test sequence and everything shows up fine, takes 10 seconds to load. trying to load the same .vir file into the sequence that it is supposed to go with, and it freezes vixen. is it due to the high channel count that is in the sequence I am using? my test sequence is just big enough for the effect of the element to make sure it's there. I loaded another routine file into another sequence with the same 16,384 channel count profile, and it worked fine.

Loading .vir files always seem to be really slow.  Most of the time it will say "not responding" and I just wait and it will eventually load.  I think it's the high channel counts.  I have been exporting .vir files from Nutcracker, 2400 channel pixel tree.  Those .vir files are particularly slow, unresponsive.  Eventually they load.  I was kind of wondering the same thing, but I deal with it knowing it's free software.

I here ya on the free software. I left it run overnight and was still not responding when I woke up this morning.

turns out my test sequence was only a minute long. the sequence I am trying to add is 4:42 long. still not responding from 1pm today. this stinks! a 3 minute song loaded fine.

are you using Emmanuel Miranda's plugins for loading vir files? The regular vixen vir loader really slows down on larger channel counts. I used his plugin to load 10,000 channel sequences.

yes sean, I am using his plug in. I was able to load a .vir file for wizards in winter 3:06 minutes long, but when I tried to load one for mad Russian Christmas 4:42 long. it freezes vixen. only doing one element at a time too. my profile is set for 16,384 channels so that I can add stuff in the future, should I drop my channel count? I will be using 3 pixelnet universes for this years show.

Have tried just converting the file to an xseq file and doing the updates direct into the existing sequence.  That is what I am doing with my old vixen sequences.

I didn't know about that.  I works way faster. <fp.

I will try that later. By doing so, I'll have to enter the timing marks manually right?

so that idea worked great on the song I was having trouble with, but when I tried it on another song(48seconds), it only loaded 2 of my elements out of 9. when I made a .vir file for 2 elements and tried to add them separately, it didn't load my .vir file(which works in a test sequence) but canceled out all of my 2 elements that it did take. I have to go to work so i will get back at it tonight.
