Title: Chip substitute?
Post by: njKeever on November 18, 2013,
I have an extra case and PCB and went to order the parts from Mouser to build another dongle. This chip (http://www.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?R=PIC18F2450-I%2fSPvirtualkey57940000virtualkey579-PIC18F2450-I%2fSP) is back ordered, is there an acceptable substitute? Thanks!

Here is a link to the same part at Newark.

You can also get it from MicroChip directly.

FWIW, the cheapest shipping for a small number of items always seems to be DigiKey:

Thanks guys. I assume then that I need this specific chip, and there's not a suitable substitution from Mouser?

Yes. This is a programmable chip and the firmware is written specifically for it. No other will suffice.

Again, going with DigiKey for this one part and using USPS will only add $3-$4 (if I remember correctly).
