the 12V TM1804 nodes did not change, it is the same as before.
the 12V WS2811 has the LDO, which takes lots of power, so the current is much higher than before.
the led has the same current ,which is about 60ma/3.2V

There are 3 string types altogether:
- Technicolor WS2811 (power is higher)
- Technicolor TM1804 (power thought to be higher -- but its been so long I can remember)
- older-style TM1804 (word of mouth was that this was also using the new LED and had problems... I have never seen a recent string to test them)
Was Ray's response directly addressing any or all of the above?

Now that is a funny auto correct. Ray is being turned to calcium. I know the first generation ip68 nodes Ray sent a year ago last January work fine at 84 nodes. I don't know what the specs were for them back then.

Spent most of the morning chatting with Ray:
TM 1804 is .3W and WS2811 is .6W and he confirmed the WS2811 is brighter. Seems fair and reasonable to me. If you want the additional output of the 2811 you need to limit them/power inject.
Mort, heads up Ray does not have the square rear entry 1804 nodes we like in stock and does not expect them in soon. I have been waiting almost 2 months... He is making some with the same design in 2811 though. I wimped out and changed my order to the typical node in 1804 since they were in stock. He promised to ship today.

The 2811's I used I just kept to 50 per ssc and they look great.

It's funny difference in power between the nodes and the flex string. I have 128 sets of 3 on 41 feet of WS2811 flex strip (lights three pixels per node) and the amps at full white is well under 4 amps.

If Technicolor, then can you provide a little more info? :)
- how many hours have they been running?
- are you using just the primary Red/Green/Blue or mixed colors and whites?
- stock 12V ws2811 50-node or something else?
- when did you receive yours?
- running on hubs & SSC's or something else? (if something else, then what voltage?)

Technicolor ws2811's. I picked them up here in the for sale a couple weeks ago. 100 sets and cut to 50.
I ran them about 24 hours on v3 test firmware in my living room. Mounted 100 on a Megatree star. 50 per ssc. I am running them on ssc v4s through active hub. I am running all color combos, but mostly red, blues, greens and some all whites. I will keep an eye on them, kinda scared of them now.

I think we're in the same boat. Do I set them out in the yard and have them fail tomorrow or keep them in the dining room (or garage) and have them continue working fine. :) Or maybe I'll set the tree up during the day on Christmas Eve with a big bow on it and hope it lasts through the evening.

It seems rdebolt has had bad problems with the TM1804 version of the Technicolor nodes. So much so that Ray is having to replace all his nodes with WS2811 versions. The WS2811 version is undergoing a design change to hopefully improve the problems they have been having with that version. It seems many people are trying to lower their voltage to around 8 volts to see if it will help with voltage regulators overheating on the WS2811 versions as a work around.

If Ray told you the ws2811 uses .6w and the 78l05 that is powering the chip can only handle .75w BUT with all the plastic. My guess is this is what is causing these LEDs to go bad so fast.

Keith you are correct, I just want to be clear on the replacements though. Mine will NOT be Technicolor.... I'm done testing! LOL.... My replacements will be Regular 2811 nodes.
