Title: Etherdongle conductor

Hi guys. My etc/conductor has been running fine until I unplugged it from my router with the show running. Now I have no connectivity from either the router or direct to my laptop. The magjack flickers on plugging it in but then nothing. I reflashed he etd firmware, reflowed the magjack joints and still the  same issue. Not sure what to try next. The laptops network jack blinks orange as i f it has slow connectivity, but nothing on the magjack. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

What you describe should not have caused any issue. I do this all the time on the bench.

Yeah I don't get it, I've never had a problem like this before.  I was unplugging it to use the cat5 jumper cable to connect a usb dongle into the hub to program a smart string.  I don't think I did but I could have confused the cables and plugged into an output on the active hub.  I don't know, just trying to think what could have happened.  I'm running my show with a laptop so I'm fine for this season.

If you did then the mag jack is fried and it will act like this. I repaired one already for someone that had this damage.

This is why I hpe that in future hub designes the RJ45's are removed from the controller outputs of the hubs.  It is way to easy to plug the wrong device into them and damage it and RJ45's were never designed to deal with the current we put thru them especially in the enviornment that they are being used in.

Actually the RJ45 are rated for 1.5 amps per contact or 4.5 amps for the three we use (check the data sheet). So that is one of the reasons the fuses are 4amps and our limit. This is in line with the limit of the cable itself. The enviroment is another story.

Oh yeah...been there done that. I have a spare magjack in my inventory now as a result!!
