Title: $600
Post by: Cobergas on April 29, 2009,
Ok I am going to try and see how many channels I can get with Lynx for this amount of money? Anyone want to try and guess? If I went totally hardwired this season and built the wireless next I wonder how many controllable channels I could get...

Not including cables but including cases ?

128 channels of express or Freestyle including SSR's for under $600
We have done the math a few times. LOL

I priced it with the least expensive lor PC version and it was 48 channels.

Aight!! I am shooting for 128 this year. I think that is attainable even though I have never in my life soldered a board or put together any type of electronics really. Besides stereo and car lights..  I know I got everyone's support on here...

if you bought the pc kits, it would be 96 channels without cases

Last year with my BIG score of extension cords at HD. I had 128 channels with the Freestryle (hardwired) for under $600. Of course I didn't stop there,... but thats another story.  ;)

Ok if we want to do them without cases then the LE would be about 160 channels then.

I am just a little further along than you.  I watched every soldering video I could find 10 times, asked a bunch of questions, checked, double checked, fretted and got my first board working after about 30 hours.  The 2nd and third boards went much quicker.    Everyone on here was very helpful.

Cobergas,

Keep in mind that cables are going to eat into that 128 channel total significantly.  It might benefit you to design your layout on paper and estimate cord length based on controller placement, electrical service, etc.  Once you have that done, you'll have a much better estimate of total costs involved and can scale your show appropriately.

Just my $.02

I have to second that - You forget about cabling until you realize you need 5000 feet of zip cord

Does that mean you just spent  $.02 of his money (so now he only has $599.98) or you are giving him $.02 (so that now he has $600.02) ? :)

Well as far as cable is concerned I have opted into the wireless realm already. I am buying a wireless receiver for a couple of boards then daisy chaining so to speak off onto another board. I wired my controllers spots from last year since I was running LOR and did not want to throw my money away on the wireless transmitters. Other cables IE: extension cords is another story. Power concerned I run 90% LEDS so for my 30,000 lights this year I will not need any additional service or sub panels. The good thing about running LEDS I guess..

Greetings,,,

Grab some item that you're throwing away, or that someone else trashed.  Radio, computer, etc.  Anything with a circuit board.  Heat up a few component connections and pull the leads out with pliers.  Put them back in.  Repeat until satisfied that you can heat a solder joint.  Any damage is no problem.  Cut an AC cord off something.  Remove insulation an inch.  Solder that heavier item.  You can now add ac cords to your units.  Proceed at your own rate from there.

Warning.  May be addictive.  Not for small children, hamsters, or mice.  Your mileage may vary.  Not valid in all states.

Yeah for some reason my DNS is hacked or something is going on with my pc because every time I try to click on a link like the videos on Rj's page it shoots me directly to Ebaum's world... Now.. I thought heck maybe I need to sign up for that.. Still no dice.. So I am going to run a remote scan on this pc and try to find out where the issue is...

A possibility is you have an addon spyware through Internet Explorer (if you are using IE). Goto tools >> Manage Addons >> check for any addons that doesn't seem to fit right.

I think you are right, the putfile link has a problem.  If I put in the putfile web address it redirects me to ebaum's world as well.

It takes me to ebaums also? it really takes me to Putfile and then redirects me to there. Maybe putfile is shutting down and redirecting all of us?

Thank goodness.. I was going to the Dr in the morning now I have one less thing to check off the list to discuss.. :) Well, that is why some of the putfile links are acting weird for me. It is not all but some do act up and send me to Ebaum's world. Is it a bandwidth problem or something?I dunno more of my 6 cents.

Looks like the company went under last month.

Not very impressive for many reasons I know (limited time after development of new equipment, Faulty LEDS require us to remove half of the lights and flickering from the bad LEDs. But it was a show. This year will be better.

That's just crazy talk!  Your show was very good.  My favorite by far, though, was "Where are you Christmas?".  Very good use of color fades & such to highlight each major part of your display without being too busy.  I love it when a sequence 'works' with or without the audio, and this one was awesome either way.

Thanks for sharing your video with us!
