Title: Brand new to any of this.
Post by: fresco194 on October 28, 2015,
I have looked into rgb a few years back but when I saw that circuit boards and programming was involved I ran away. I have tried to shop for retail controllable icicle string lights for the last couple of years but they are pretty much non-existent. Than I came across this and fell head over heels for this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTxCE8t8Afc
This is exactly what I need. Icicle lights that I can use from Halloween all the way till the New Year that I can change from white to any solid color and multi. problem is I know nothing at all of this stuff. Absolute zip. I am PC literate and am a graphic designer but that is about as far as my technology goes. If some one can take a look at this and explain and help me from software, equipment, lights and whatever else I may need because I have no clue and I would really love to have this setup for next year. Thanks a lot in advance.

For starters join the forum at http://nutcracker123.com/forum/index.php (http://nutcracker123.com/forum/index.php) and learn about the xlight/ntcracker free software.  You have numerous choices in hardware.  There are great choices here, but they are all stuff you have to solder unless you buy used.  The hardware products found here are only available via coops and the coops only occur periodically.  You might want to look at holidaycoro.com for prebuilt solutions and a lot of beginner stuff for RGB.  There are other forums and prebuilt solutions available, but you will get as many opinions as there are people to ask.  My recommendation is find someone who lives as close to you as possible and visit them to learn what they are using and how they do it.  I am fortunate enough to have 6 people in my town who do animated lights and probably a dozen in my county.
