Title: What program are people using for RGB pixels?
Post by: Penfold on January 20, 2016,
I was just curious what people are using nowadays for their SSC and dumb strings.  I have been using Vixen 2.5, but I think it's definitely time for an upgrade :-}.  Is there a freeware program like Vixen that allows for more of a modular system to focus on individual aspects of a show (all mini Christmas trees, windows, etc)?  I haven't used Vixen 3 or Vixen + yet.  I was just curious as what people are using currently and what seems to be the most popular choice.

Please let me know.

Mike

Hmm.  I have been a vixen user since 2007 and just now looked at xlights for the first time.  I don't have too many RGB nodes so I figured I didn't need it.  Looks like I might be wrong,  I didn't realize it had a full sequencer in it now.  Does xlights work well for creating sequences that only use normal Christmas light strings (non-rgb)?  Can I create the same kind of shows in xLights that I have been doing in vixen 2.1?

Also, xlights will import a vixen sequence, true?

Thanks in advance.

yes, yes, and yes.  There's also going to be an in-depth seminar on it in April that you can attend virtually or in-person...

xlights can control smart strings, dumb strings, and old single-color strings well.
xlights has audacity functionality now integrated.
xlights has papagayo functionality now integrated. (monster faces, etc.  with string and pixel versions of the faces)
xlights can control foggers, animatronics, and dmx-controlled moving yokes.
xlights can easily import sequences made by others and apply the effects to your personal elements -- so bringing up someone's sequence into your display can take 15 minutes.
xlights now has a manual, and its own support forum.
xlights can import sequences from LOR, vixen, and LSP.

xlights!!    Love it.   Tremendous support and very well-done piece of software!!
did I mention it is freeware?

Sean & co. are queuing up an intensive 2 day training session ~mid April this year--you can either go to it in Vegas or stream it.
