Title: WS2811 behaviour
Post by: DanHouston on November 13, 2016,
I ordered some WS2811 strings and most of them just seem dead. If I plug/unplug them a few times I can occassionally get two of the strings to light up some of the nodes but they do not respond to the data. I have a known good controller and string and they work fine.

I'm contacting the seller of the strings, but thought I would ask here to see if anyone else has encountered this or has any thoughts.

Thanks,
Dan

Double check the wiring, i have heard some 2811's have the color wires mixed up on the ground and data. You can check the the first pixel and should be able to read which is which.

Yeah. I took a look at that and it's hard to see, but the labels look like I have them correct. +12v, D, Gnd.

Is there a right and wrong side of the string to connect the SSC too?

I have a set from a different manufacturer and they say the input side is the side opposite the IC. These did not have a label with them, but had a pigtail on them suggesting the input side is the same side as the IC.

the 2811's i just got from ray are Red=12v  blue=ground  green= data. the ground and data are reversed from the 1804's. i am noticing issues with my 2811's not being full white over 100 nodes.

Yes, just like any item there is an in and an out. You'll have to look at both sides, the side with the writing is generally the in.]
