Title: WS2801? Which dongle?
Post by: Penfold on January 05, 2017,
I use a lot of the TM1804IC pixel strings as referenced in the wikki.  My question is if I want to use Ray Wu's WS2801 lights that are 12V, what dongle, or converter would I need to incorporate on the lights in order to get them to work with the Passive hub?  What is the difference between the TM1804IC and the WS2801?

Also, does anyone know a C9 style light that is IP68 that I can use to trim my house roof?  It's time I get rid of those old school single color strands.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks

Mike

The WS2801 is a 4 wire node that requires external clocking and is not compatible with current DLA equipment.  If you look on Ray's site he should have RGB strings with C9 covers.  He did last year.

Thanks.  I did see the C9 ones, but wondered what was needed different from the WS2801.  Is there something written in the wikki that talks about the theory behind the 1804 and the 2801?  Grant it I absolutely love the 1804 and have no plans to breakout to the 2801, but it's just curiosity that's got me.

Thanks again T!

The two types of strings that will work with DLA equipment are the 1804 and the 2811 both are three wire. * This is dependent on the clock speed of the chips * I have used both and the only problem with the 2811's I used was I had to change the node type in the SSC setup program to get the correct color order. YMMV

Keep in mind, many of the 2811 use 2x the power as the tm1804 ... I am shocked that nobody considers a negation of all cost savings when you factor in power costs ... I know people run then at a lower %, but tm1804 can also do the same.  If you want that kind of pixel, falcon works well.

Thanks Care and Tayb!   You have given me some food for thought
