This Co-Op is for the Lynx Express version 5 kit.

Please Note there is no limit on these units. You may order how ever many you need.

There is no options on this coop. The PCB's or Heatsinks alone will be avaliable from me after the last person on this coop gets there stuff. I will post in the sale aread that I have them avaliable. Please do not pm me asking before that.

This coop is for parts, PCB and heatsink.

No kits will contain the Cases as it is just as cost effective for the users to order them and easier for the coop managers.

This Coop will close on Jan 15th 2010 at 8:00 PM Eastern Standard Time zone. Full Payment is expected when the coop is closed no orders can be made until all members have paid. All members will receive PM’s when the coop closes with details of payments due.

Please get your paypal payments in as soon as you get the Co-Op invoice PM as no orders can be placed until all payments have been received.

By joining this Co-Op you also agree that the Co-Op manager, DLA (as a board to also include all administrators, moderators, and members) shall not be held for any liability. You are joining this Co-Op at your own risk.

What is a Lynx Express you may ask?

Well the Lynx Express is a new 16 Channel controller based off the popular Lynx and FreeStyle designs but with some nice new features. The Lynx Express supports on board push button start address programming, the ability to program the Pic without removing it from the controller, and On board diagnostics. In addition this controller has some advanced features.

Some of the features are:

1. Custom dimming curves that can be assigned on a per channel basis. What this means is that you can have standard and Led light strings plugged into your controller and be able to get them to dim at the same rate.

2. Testing. If you have problems with your LE. You can now put the LE into a diagnostics mode that will help isolate those problems.

3. Wireless Yes that’s right this controller will support a plug and play module that allows your controller to go wireless with the addition of the wireless equipment.

4. Built in snubber resistors to help LED users. no need to add the resistor plugs on you led strings as they are built in. This does not effect standard light users.

You will receive all the parts you need for the complete kit. To complete your setup you will need power cords for the AC hookup and a DMX dongle to use along with the Vixen or LightShowPro software programs. At the time of this writing I can only suggest the use of the Lynx USB DMX adapter or the Enttec Pro. There are other adapters that can be used but due to issues that have been found with them I cannot recommend them.

Now for the pricing. Well by now I am sure that you have asked what about pricing? How much do I need to pay to get one or more of these great Lynx Express units?

We have a base goal of 75 kits. This goal allows the cost per unit to drop low enough to make it cost effective.

Pricing is below broken into the 75 unit levels. The pricing below will include all fees, shipping and handling charges to get the items to the Coop Manager. Full Details are included in the attached spreadsheet as per coop rules.

Lynx Express Complete Kit /w heatsink (No Case) $68

This is an estimate and the previous coops have beat this in the past. The larger the amount the better the pricing most times.

Shipping will be based on the USPS flat rate box. This is the box that will ship in the US for $10.70 a box and international for $43.45 Canada and Mexico $26.95. This is the shipping cost per flat rate box we can fit about 6 kits in a single flat rate box but can go to a larger flat rate box for larger orders for a few dollars more.

this coops is easily going to exceed te $5000 base cost limit. Based on the success of other coops and that i have direct control on this one and JJ says hes up for sorting this many, I am waiveing the limit. I want everyone to get all they want so they have all year to get equipment built.

No can't quote until we are done but based on past 235 unti coop plus the extra few parts for the Ver5 maybe ~ $60 This is a guess and is not to be exprect to be a price promise.

At the end of the posting period (15 Jan), RJ will be going out the suppliers to get prices on the parts needed. Once he has that information, he will be able to calculate the cost per kit. That is the information that he will be sending to you in a PM. It will then be up to you to get that money to him via PayPal. If you do not yet have an account, recommend you get one as that is the only way that we transfer funds here as it is more secure than most other methods.

I know what its like when times are tight. When there's this many involved in a coop is the time to get in. Waiting til the next may make you cost per unit go up. Might want to just get what you can now while the cost per unit is this low.

You can count on another one a few months down the road after JJ (RJs father) recovers from doing the sorting/packing on this one. Last year there were 5 separate COOPs on the LE but none even approched this volumn.

You can expect a decrease in cost, however don't expect a large decrease. We may have a lot of orders but discount of parts don't go down as much and some require high quanities for only a 1-5 cent difference. Hopefully it is somewhere around the cost of the Express 3 coop (very nice price indeed - Lynx Express Coop #3 was about $60 each for 230 orders - based on my e-mails). please guys leave the pricing to the Coop managers. We had issues before with people guessing and then had upset members when it was not that.

We have already exceed them as it is 500 parts not 500 units. The price has not move in the last 40 units and will not for a very large amount of change that we will never see.

Ok the quotes are added up and check and rechecked and checked again to insure no bumps in the road.

Unless a number of people drop out which of course will raise the price if enough do, we are good with this price.

Each Express V5 kit on this coop will cost : $55.20 or $12.80 less than quote in the coop announcement.

For a total savings to the members on this coop of $15,943

this is based on the cost one off for parts and pcb and heatsink is just about $85.

I forgot how many new users we have so I forgot to add in the pms for payment this "please do not pm me to say you have paid. I will know you paid and 141 pm's ends up hiding pm's from people with problems that need me to see their pm"

Also Paypal fees are in the total so no need to send additional money to cover them.

With that said all pm's for this coop payment has been sent. If you did not receive one and should have them pm me and let me know.

Make sure you show as paid in the second post of this thread. If not and you sent payment check paypal as a number of them were refunded do to lack of address or username, Ect. If you have and it was not refunded then pm me and let me know but include you transaction number from paypal for me to find your payment.

Make sure to get your payments in soon as I will be ordering Monday and so any not paid will be dropped from the coop.

Orders for parts have been placed. Should start receiving parts in 4-5 days. Transformers went backordered on me for 14 weeks. But I found a small warehouse in Cali with 540 units. I had to buy them all and they will end up with shipping cosing me a little more but should not be a issue.

We were adding up numbers one night. This coop is going over 105, 000 pieces, and that's not including all the packaging materials. Someone has to actually check those parts to confirm everyone gets their orders. And some things like the heatsinks are being handled several times to get them to the point where they're ready to go. Lots of work for the J Team. ;D

Just a coop update. JJ has sorted a lot of parts this week. He had a few part number that were short just a couple so We have mouser taking care of that.

I have to say the number of parts in this coop is hard to imagine. Even though I thought I knew, to see them open and out on tables being sorted kinda shocks you the first time.

To put it in a way you can start to think about. The average person looking into a perfect night sky with no clouds and no moon while away from any lighting can see about 5000 stars in the night sky.

Dad is sorting over 20 times this many parts! :o

The Last of the backordered parts have arrived and JJ keeps plugging away at the sorting. Heatsinks are to be ready at the anodizer tommorrow afternoon to pickup.

At that point we will be waiting on nothing it is just manual labor to finish. We owe JJ big on this one! I keep telling him to not work so hard and he keeps telling me we have to get it done so we can start the next coop! ;D

Due to a equipment breakdown the heatsinks did not get done. They did get a handful done before it broke. They are suppose to be finished monday but we have to drive an hour and half each way to pick them up.

We will pack up what we can this weekend to speed things along.

As I was reading the forum posts from everyone I told my wife that I should be receiving a package soon. Since I work 3rd shift I am not up when the postman comes in the afternoon. It was then, 4 hours after I woke up, that she said "oh ya, does it look like this?" If she only knew how important my first board was, she would have woke me up to tell me the great news. LOL. Just got my first one together, that was fun. :)

Just one thing that looks odd, when i plug it in, LED 6 lights up.

I have not built my DMX Dongle yet, so i cannot actually test the Express, but that LED being lit tells me something is wrong.
I have looked at my solder joints and they all look fine.

Anywone else have this issue???

Also FYI, the LED 6 is only at about 50% brightness.

I understand the cuircut here, and best i can tell the PIC must be actively doing something wrong'ish for that LED to be dimmly lit.

Also i assume LED 16 is supposed to light up when pressing the Select button. Looks right anyways.

And of course 1 more question, what do those startup characters mean??

Quick questions. Are the startup characters you mention actual words, like 60 HZ, Lynx Express, or just jumbles? And have you tried to run the test on the LE, which you can do without the dongle?

Led 16 lights up with button press normally.

I was jus looking at the manual on the wiki.
Yes it says Lynx Express 60Hz.

When i run the test, LED 6 just stays dimmly lit and 10,11,and 12 don't light.

Yep, thats just what i got done doing. It is a bum pic.
Interestingly now that i have a good one working i realize the old one was running slow. The button press responce was slow, LED Segment Display update was slow and the test sequence ran slow.

Odd/Interesting

I am wondering if I managed to give the pic a static discharge, i did touch grounded metal before touching them though. Are these pic's fairly sensitive? The only other microcontrollers i have worked with are the BS2 and the SX 28 DIP, I definitly manhandled the SX chips and never had an issue.

So now do i use this as an excuse to the wife to buy a PIC2KIT?

Over half the people needing fuses are in the dongle coop. And since the pcbs will be here in a few days I will be shipping theirs with the dongles pcbs. The rest I will be packing and sending as soon as I have enough fuses to do so. Should all be out next Monday at the latest. I expect the other part of the fuses to be here Tuesday.

We spent the day packing up kits and used the first shipment of fuses up. We got almost all of the rest of the packages done before running out.

I just finished my very first LE kit and Dongle (well still need to program the pic, but that's a different story). I turned the LE board on and got the startup message and completed the test sequence...all is good.

Thanks RJ & JJ for everything, I am ready for my first blinky flasy xmas display (may just have to use it for halloween too).

The expresses all have shipped. Everyone check the contents and let me know if anything is missing via PM. The fuses have all went out in the mail also for those in the first batch. Give them 8 working days before you PM me about them.

I got all of mine put together. 3 out of the 4 worked without a problem <la.. The fourth one was exhibiting the same problem as described earlier in this thread... LED 6 was on and the “Lynx Express” scrolling was slow. I just re-flashed the PIC and <md.. ... mean it began to work correctly.

The Manual states that to program the channel into the unit, you press the mode button twice. It should say "three times". Twice only gets you into the test mode.

We just recieved ours in Toronto Canada yesterday! I just want to say a big thanks to RJ and all of the people that helped pull this coop together it is amazing! Now the fun begins we have 6 to assemble 4 for me a 2 for my buddy (also a member). I am going from a home made 16 channel display to 64 channels and my friend is already planning his halloween display.......let the fun begin.

Can't wait for the relaease of the new wireless

I have 3 out of the 4 controllers done. The 4th one is down to the last few steps. I had the 3 set up in my living room the other day and all worked well. I did have to re-flash two of the Pics but other then that it went good. I am amazed at the time and effort that was spent on this, the parts count was perfect and the manual was clear. I can't wait to get the next batch.
