Hi Folks,

There seems to be some confusion about this little board. I feel really bad that it is not clearly explained in the Wiki. So this is an attempt to correct some of the confusion.

The SSR4 has two modes.

Meet the Base SSR4

Notice that there is some missing parts. This is fine, it just does NOT have any "smarts" to receive any DMX info from the dongle. In this Relay mode you need a controller to be able to use it.  Like the Lynx Freestyle (http://diylightanimation.com/wiki/index.php?title=Freestyle_Manual)


Meet SSR4 DMX Mode

Now its a fully functioning 4 channel DMX controller, in fact it is the same board as above but with some added parts. This is also the only way it can receive wireless DMX info. By removing the RS-485 chip and plugging in the Express Module with some extra parts. See the full write up here (http://diylightanimation.com/wiki/index.php?title=Mod_Wireless)

Now look at the two pictures. What else has changed?

The Jumpers.
In the top picture the C/S jumper is on the S side and the other Jumper (can't see the silk screen text in the picture) is just S.
In the bottom picture the C/S Jumper is on the C side the S jumper is not jumped.
The bottom picture also adds a Program/Operate Jumper which is used for Operation mode or Program mode to set the start address.
The other jumper in the bottom picture is the TERM jumper  (can't see the silk screen text in the picture) which is the terminate, the jumper next to the blue transformer and the DMX out connector (RJ-45)

The terminate jumper is only needed for the LAST DMX device in line. Of course there could be more than one end device when you use a splitter (either on the Express or the Lynx splitter) and each one of them will need the term jumper on.

Ok, now one final thing that may or may not be obvious is the fully functioning SSR4-DMX can be jump convert back to relay mode by setting the C/S jumper to S and jumping the S jumper.

Here is a sample of how the SSR4 and Freestyle can be connected to the DMX (or not DMX) line to control 4 mini trees. This is not the only way just something I threw together at lunch time.

 Planning out my layout, I came across a situation I don't know the answer; the learning curve for this is a butt biter!

 Okay, can a non-DMX SSR4 daisy chain from a DMX SSR4 OR must that non-DMX SSR4 plug into the Freestyle?

Non DMX SSR4 has to be connected to a controller like the Freestyle

Only DMX enabled devices can be daisy chain together (LE, Freestyle, MR16, Aether, SSR4-DMX)

I was getting reading to ask clarifications on the SSR4 when I found your post. Great job, I really appreciate what you did. I have not started building anything yet and your explanations bring me one step closer to getting ready.
