Title: Found new supplier for CG1500 enclosures
Post by: dlhoppe on December 16, 2010,
Thought I would share this info with the group. I just found a supplier for the CG-1500 enclosures. The price for small quantities is $10/unit. I ordered 4 and they indicated the shipping costs will be approx $15. Based on what else I've been able to find online, this is a pretty good deal. I didn't ask about bulk pricing, but it appears they can do that too.

Here is the source:

I was about to ask where to get enclosures since yourbroadbandstore.com isn't what it used to be.

Good I found this thread first.

Hrm...it might be worth letting htem know that there are 600 LE's that will be needing cases soon.  Might be a way to negotiate "slighlyt" better pricing.

Spoke with Duke this afternoon.
They found some in their Texas loacation, and I ordered 6 @10.00 each.
Even if they are not there ( ie backorder), I placed an order for 6 to be shipped to me up in Trevor, Wisconsin.
Waiting for a couple of Express Kits I bought from another DIY'r up north!

CaptKirk,
Was the shipping marked up or was it reasonable?  I keep thinking I will call YBBS and get lucky with one last order...
Title: Re: Found new supplier for CG1500 enclosures
Post by: CaptKirk on January 12, 2011,
Well it was a big, reasonably heavy box that showed up.  Total for 6 (with shipping) was 84.17 to CA so  they ended up costing $14 each.  That ain't good.  The interesting thing is that their site says these weigh 14lbs each.  I wonder if we could negociate a "free shipping" deal like we had with YBBS.  BTW: I thought they (Arrisent?) only would do $250 orders now and YBBS was GONE?

I do think that YBBS is gone but I have a hunch that Arris will jump on any decent size order.  My hunch is that YBBS/Arris got sick of guys calling for 1 of this or that.  I can relate...   I have not stayed on hold long enough to find out yet.

The shipping figure seems realistic and not marked up.  I think we are just spoiled from the YBBS blue ridge free shipping thing.

That Graybar link looks promising.  Looks like I have several within 1 hour from me.  Maybe I can pick up and that will lower the quantity requirement.

I stopped by my local Graybar today and the price was $13.82.  No price break for a quantity of 10.  I did not ask about a larger qty.  They are a non-stock item and have to be shipped in and I would have to pay the shipping to either the local store or my home.  Not to good of a deal.

Chris can get them at http://foleyfamilychristmas.com/wordpress/?page_id=407

@$13 each plus shipping to you is the best I can find so far.

I think I read somewhere on planet christmas that it is around $16 shipping per case of 6. Don't quote me on that though.

How is that better than DF Countryman selling them ANY qty at $9.95 each and about $4 shipping each?    Is there somplace in the country that $17 each shipped is better than $14 each shipped?? <rtt..

Good point - you do need to call DF Countryman, but if you use Google Voice that call is free.  DFC was helpful, quick and accurate so from my one experience, they are good to use.
Title: Re: Found new supplier for CG1500 enclosures

For what it's worth I just requested a quote, via email, from Duke at DF Countryman for 8 CG-1500's.  He came back with a cost of $11.50 per unit and $35 shipping. This puts it just under $16 per panel.  The quote I got seems to be higher than some other people have been reporting in this thread, but maybe his costs have gone up since those initial orders.

In the grand scheme of what we spend on equipment for this little hobby we enjoy, I'm not going to sweat a few dollars on the enclosures.  I'll probably just go with this quote from DFC.

BTW, they have an 800 number: 800-326-6820.

Title: Re: Found new supplier for CG1500 enclosures
Post by: mokeefe on January 25, 2011,
I sent a reply back to Duke at DFC asking if the prices had gone up since the earlier orders.  He said he could do $10 per enclosure and the $35 shipping (for 8) was an estimate.  So I ordered 8 enclosures from him at the $10 price. We'll see what the shipping turns out to be.

BTW, I did this entire transaction via email with Duke.  Not quite as convenient as a web based ordering system, but didn't have to deal with playing phone tag.  I also made Duke aware that he may be getting a significant number of people making similar requests once the LE coop begins to ship.

Duke's email address at DFC is dm@dfcco.com and their phone number is 800-328-6820.

Sort of like a COOP except they handle the shipping and billing and there are no Paypal or other overhead?  Make sure he knows that my 6 count toward that total!!

With so many LE's in the coop, it should be easy to hit that number.  Should we set up a special order "passcode" like "diy" "dla" or "lynx" with them so they know it is us??

Post by: dlhoppe on January 25, 2011,
Maybe you should just let him know the coop has 600 units, and there will be more coops in the future. If he's the best price, he's going to get all the business. Shouldn't have to count anything other than telling him the amount of business he's about to get. When I found them they were really agreeable and pleasant to deal with. I'm sure they'll work with us without much fuss.

Maybe this is the "in" we need with them to get the SSR4 enclosures without minimum quantities. Whoever speaks to them again, please bring that up.

Thanks!

Feel free to try and include the 8 I ordered today directly through Duke at DFC. He knows that I came from the DLA site.

Also, is it really like a coop?  Are they going to hold all the orders and payments and then start shipping once the magic number has been reached?

I'll talk to him and ask him about the ssr4 enclosures and (dlhoppe) you have a good point about the quantity of enclsures we are going to buy.. but you have to remember one thing, the discounts come with the purchases at hand, not the prospect of sales..

I second dlhoppe's comments about this company.  In less than 24 hours I requested a quote for 8 units, placed a credit card order, and had a UPS tracking number emailed to me.  They'd definitely get my repeat business.

well maybe we should just leave it at $10.00 a unit.. the discounts come with the sales.. I'll talk to chuck and see if he will go for it.. He said that he only carries about 25 at any given time so the rest are ordered and it takes 1 to 2 weeks to get them... the product doesn't sit on the shelves or I'm sure he would cut us a better deal..

Well, since I've been dealing with Duke at DFC lately, I posed the question to him.  Sounds like it's still the same story.  DFC can supply the ML-200 for $4.25 per unit plus shipping and can supply the TA-200 at $4 per unit plus shipping. The TA-200 must be purchased in multiples of 45 units, while the ML-200 is apparently an item they normally stock and can be purchased in any quantity.

dlhoppe purchased one of the ML-200's from DFC and documented his process to modify it to work with the current SSR4 board.  The info is in this thread: http://diylightanimation.com/index.php?topic=3789.0

While I suppose there might be a potential for a coop (perhaps tied in with a future SSR4 coop), the shipping costs are going to be the main issue.  I suppose if the case were included as part of an SSR4 coop there might be some savings due to the combined shipping.

This is a link to the info on the ML-200 enclosure: http://www.gomultilink.com/Catalog/Product.aspx?Path=1017301350134

Assuming they continue to have them available there, that seems like it might be the way to go for now. Sounds like Chris is buying in quantity (e.g. 45 TA-200's per case) and then selling them off in smaller quantities to us DIY'ers, at very little markup I suspect.  Shipping costs are a little unknown.

AFL global is one of the Main Distributors for the CG 1500 enclosure, they have a list of distributors at http://www.afltele.com/contacts/distributors/index.html (http://www.afltele.com/contacts/distributors/index.html) the part number for this is 912440-00-00. I requested a quote from my local dealer, they like to sell them in boxes of 6 at the following prices
0-200   $10.50
201-400   $9.55
400+   $9.13
add shipping and taxes (CA)
the quote I received from AFL as quantities of 6 for a list price of $10.50 18 pc min.

with the quantity and pricing a coop would not net much savings.

myself I will order a box of 6 and pick them up at the dealer.  :)

I got pricing for the boxes.  $9.23 each plus shipping.  They have a minimum order of 18 units.  My guys figures shipping would be about $30.

There is a QTY discount at 1002 pieces which drops the price to $8.81, but I don't think anyone needs THAT many.

I'm in CT.  If anyone within a reasonable distance wants to get together and order some, or if anyone has need of that qty, I'd be happy to try and broker something.

My guy also offered to come up with pricing for any other cases that might be needed.

Yet another reason a lot of us in the industry call them Gaybar.  I can see paying local tax but you would think they could just put them on the local resupply truck.  Might take a few extra days but should be no reason to pay shipping to the store.

Just as a point of reference I bought 8 enclosures from DFC at $10 per unit plus $31.97 shipping.  They had to ship in two boxes via UPS.  Shipping might have been more economical at 6 units since that is what comes in one box.  Seems you get slightly different prices per enclosure depending on who you talk to at DFC and when.

All,

I just order 18 (minimum order) of the CG-1500 cases.  My grand total including shipping was $170.73 ($9.485 per unit).  I won't have them for several weeks (it's a new SKU for the company I work with), but I certainly won't need them all.  I expect to keep 8, so I'm happy to offer up the other 10 for my cost plus shipping to whoever wants them.

*** UPDATE *** all 10 are spoken for.

If anyone is interested, send me a PM and I'll reserve them for you.

If there is interest, I can try to make arrangements for others to purchase 18 units using the price above (+/- your specific shipping costs).

I own my company so I don't  mind extending the discounts as long as the actual transactions stay off my books (you need to provide CC info to the supplier).  My supplier is open to this arrangement.

Perhaps some of you can band together...

Let me know.

I recently ordered CG1500 enclosures from DFCountryman through the San Antonio office.  My contact there was Chuck Baze.  I ordered a total of 36 enclosures, about half were for other people, and the price was $10 per enclosure.  We talked about group buys and Chuck said they didn't have any price breaks until you got to a quantity of 500.  However, he did say that he would lower the minimum order quantity to 6 in the future, if we would mention that we are using the enclosures for Christmas lighting.

I believe the San Antonio telephone number is (210) 654-0443 but you can verify it on the DFCountryman web site.  Simply ask for Chuck Baze and tell him they are for Christmas lighting.

I just ordered some CG-1500s from Tessco using Rick's (Pokey's) account rep for 9.23 per unit.

The rep asked if I would inform the DLAers about a couple of things.

1.  The cases are special order for them, and as a result lead time on the cases is about 3-4 weeks.  Basically, last minute ordering is not going to work.

2.  The cases can only be ordered in batches of 6 (minimum 18), ie 18, 24, 30 etc.

my view...

In my case, I needed 21 cases, but had to order 24.  I will have a few extra cases, not a deal breaker.
I'm in TN, so I got charged 9.25% TN sales tax, not unexpected since I had to pay tax with YBBS as well.
Shipping for 24 units from CT to TN is reasonable at $19.11

Per unit cost shipped to me was just under $11.

update
Just noticed that the shipping is apparently taxed as well...

Glad it worked out for you!  I think my friends at Tessco have the best prices around -- they are a distributor who sell to places like DFCountryman, so it makes sense their prices are lower.

I just happened to stumble across this vendor for the 1500 enclosures.  The only down side was having to order 10 of them but I had a need for 6 so 4 spares isn't a big deal.  They were $9.50 each, and I was too lazy to call into DF Countryman as I just wanted to ease of ordering them at 1:00 AM as I just did.

I ordered TA-200s from this site.  http://wlcventures.com/ (http://wlcventures.com/)  They want $3.43 per TA-200 plus shipping.  It is run by a DIYC member.

I contacted excess-supply.com and asked about that and they replied that that was an error.  They've updated the website for the TA-200 cases to have a minimum order of 25.  Just placed my order online a few minutes ago.

I got my enclosures today and they do a great job with packaging, now I have a surplus of the 1500, if I decide I am at a good capacity I may part with some of them.  Although they are up for a coop purchase if we were to organize one.

Got my cases from Tessco on Thursday.  It's nice that they came in a couple of weeks earlier than expected.  Of course YMMV.

I ordered mine and received them on my doorstep in under 24 hours.  They seems to be shipping out of S. Denver area.  Makes me wonder if there was any connection to YBBS.

Just ordered 3 of the cg-1500 from Duke at DF Countryman.  He said he was amazed there were this many of us into Christmas lights.  The probably have sold more of theses cases for this use, than the intended use.

Ordered 2 CG-1500 cases from DFC today.  Total was $32.69 including shipping.  Cases were $10.00/each.  Very nice to deal with.  I called the Texas location.

How much is the shipping fee? I am planning to purchase 10.

thanks!

Mine (from excess supply) came to $12.12 (shipped) ... and were delivered (Denver area) in under a day.

Base price of case of $9.50 each and ordered 12.   At the time, the system made you order in increments of 6 ... and above 12
the shipping actually went up (per box), not down.

Mine came to $11.84/ea shipped to the St.Louis area.  I have ordered a total of 20 from them.  One case had 2 broken units and they shipped me three replacements in return for the two broken.  The orders were filled and to me within 3 days total and I ordered on a Sunday.

I was talking about excess supply myself, however I replied with the wrong cost with shipping ($10.84/ea) is what I actually paid on two separate orders of 10 each time.  The second order I had two boxes that the hinges were broken on and like I said they sent me 3 units to replace just 2.  They were great to deal with for me.  That is who you got all the smaller enclosures from wasn't it Chris?

yes, some were posting about getting from other suppliers, so I was trying to see what luck people were having from Excess.  Myself, included, seems like great success.

I ordered 2 from Excess over the weekend, but just got an email from them saying they shipped out the last they had on Friday. They offered the CG-2000 as an alternative, but I just answered back asking if they did Backorders. I don't really need it anytime quick, so can afford to wait some more.

how's that for quick depletion!     lol

Apparently 'excess supply' has no more excess CG-1500 (s) ... LOL

When I saw they were out of Denver, I had wonder if this was stock leftover from the My Broadband Home bankruptcy ... again, not likely, just made me wonder if there was a connection.

Wow, well that was a quick depletion.  I did call them this morning and verified that they have more coming in to replenish their stock.  I also spoke with their sales manager about a group discount code and she is going to get back to me but it sounds promising.

Be aware, if it wasn't mentioned already, they "new" cases have a different mold than the ones Robert designed the boards for....
Or so I was told...

This is no big deal just cut a piece of 1/4" to fit inside the case & screw the controller to it. The fit is fine.
