Post by: Danbe on September 15, 2011,
If I put 12volt DC on SSH  what about my pixel led is just 5volt DC on 6803 or etc....Did I need to buy 12DCV pixel ?  I confuse with that I watch few video no one say nothing about that . Or   Thank ::)

Sorry but those pixel leds won't work with RJ's SS hardware. In the wiki is a chart with links to items that do work which are all 12v. See the chart at the bottom of this link http://www.diylightanimation.com/wiki/index.php?title=Equipment#Smart_String_.2F_Pixelnet_Library

I hate to kick up an old topic but I was just going over the same scenario.
I found these inexpensive controllers on ebay.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/DMX-to-WS2811-WS2812-strip-converter-WS2811-WS2812-led-controller-/321131195346?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ac4e92bd2

They run at 12v but with a jumper can run at 5v.
They work for most of the different IC s on the market.

Hope this helps other people wondering the same thing.

Interesting... But...

- it only speaks DMX, which is limited to 160 nodes per controller (480 channels) - basically 1 DMX universe (512 channels) per controller
(It Does not speak pixelnet protocol)

So to use this, you will basically need the hardware to output a DMX universe per string.

If configured for DMX, the USB dongle outputs 1 universe and the etherdongle outputs 4 universes.

If configured for pixelnet, you still have only 1 and 4 universes respectively, but those universes each contain 8 times as many channels (4096 per universe)

A single ssc costs about half of the device you posted.

I'm not saying that that device does not have its place, but don't think being able to use cheaper nodes is going to reduce the overall price of something like a mega tree...
