Title: Lighting levels
Post by: Asterix0 on October 19, 2011,
I'm trying to dim an LED spotlight. When I test the channel in Vixen it goes from off to full on by intensity 15 (vs 100 on the scale). It also makes visible jumps in brightness. Is there some way to configure a channel for smoother operation?

Thanks,
Asterix0

Is vixen in percent mode or level mode?

Does the scale go from 0 to 100 or 0 to 255?

0 to 100

Switch it over to levels then

On the tool bar is a button with a white background and a blue % click on that so it changes to #

Then you have finer control over the light levels. Change the intensity of the cells and see if you notice a difference

You also need to determine if the spotlight is dimmable or not.  If it isn't then you will destroy it in short order.

This is what the custom light curves in in the express are all about. LEDs dim differently from regular bulbs. Up to a certain point, they don't turn on at all, then they get close to full brightness over a small zone. Then finally there is a very gradual increase in brightness from that point to 100%.
