Title: What other pro DMX software can find/use EtherDongle?
Post by: mmorlan62 on March 28, 2012,
Hi all,

I've noted an EtherDongle plugin for Vixen and config details for LoR.  I'm inclined to use the EtherDongle to talk to moving heads so I'm reviewing a variety of free and pro packagesL

Is there a standard driver/device to look for in order to talk to EtherDongle with these and other packages?

Thanks,

M

It also works with LSP 2.x ... LightSHow Pro.

I doubt it works with any of those you listed, never heard of any of them.

It also works with xlights, which is a free player for sequences created in LOR or vixen
and which can output to many protocols (DMX, Pixelnet, LOR, Renard, ...)

You could probably sequence in Vixen (free) and then use lights as your sequence player
and scheduler.

The etherdongle should work with anything that outputs multicast e1.31.
You would have to check on each item that you listed to see if they support that type output. If you can get them to let you demo the stuff, that would be best...

After a little research, most of the packages you mentioned are written to use the interface that they are selling.

E1.31 is an industry standard for DMX over Ethernet, so there should be software out there that supports it, but most professional stand alone software comes with a high price tag... They are targeting businesses, not hobbyists and the DIY community.

Thanks, all, for the input.

Multicast E1.31 - that's the standard I was seeking for the ED.

You can try demos of most pro software so I can take a look.

Freestyler is free.  I'll look for an e1.31 output choice there.
