Title: Aether 2 COOP - CLOSED for orders

This is a coop for the Aether II.  Info on this item can be found here: http://diylightanimation.com/index.php?board=31.0 and in the wiki.  This coop is for Kits that will include the PCB with parts.  There will not be a separate PCB option available with this coop.

By joining this Coop you also agree that the Coop manager, DLA (as a board to also include all administrators, moderators, and members) shall not be held for any liability.  You are joining this Coop at your own risk.

As with any Coop this Coop is subject to the forum rules.  These rules can be reviewed using the following link.

There are lenses being offered as separate kits on the coop based on an availability in stock at the time of order placement. These will go to members in order of their orders being placed until they are all gone. Any member left that ordered them will not receive them and will receive a refund for the lens kit cost as we will not back-order any since this would hold up the coop shipment for everyone else.

The kits do not include the light housing or 12v AC Landscape Transformer the member will need to purchase these separate. It does use the same housing as the original Aether.

The Coop will be limited to 250 Aether II kits.  This Coop will close on April 9th 2012 at 11:00 PM Eastern Time or when 250 Aether kits have been reached.  Once the Coop is closed, I will send each member a PM with the details of their order and what payment is due.  Full payment is expected when the coop is closed since orders cannot be made until all members have paid.  Please get your PayPal payments in as soon as you get the Coop invoice PM since the LED's may get in short supply. Please ensure your PayPal address info is up to date.

For shipping, one Aether II kit with no lenses will fit in a small priority box for $5.67 to the US.  Anything more than that will have to go in a larger box ($12.03 to the US for a medium which will hold a lot of kits)  Final shipping costs will be sent with the payment PM.

Here are the pricing details at initial ordering amounts.  Pricing includes 3% PayPal and 3% Coop fees.  As always, higher numbers should reduce pricing.  We will need a minimum of 50 Aether II kits to make this coop feasible.  That should not be an issue based on feedback, but does need to be made clear.

Kit 1 - Lynx Aether II  kit – PCB with parts (limit of 250 kits)
Qty 50 - $76.13 per kit

Kit 2 - NS model lens - Narrow spot which is 8 deg (currently 73 in stock)
Qty 10 - $5.28 per lens

Kit 3 - SP model lens - Spot which is 15 deg (currently 112 in stock)
Qty 10 - $5.28 per lens

Kit 4 - NF model lens - Narrow flood which is 22 deg (currently 186 in stock)
Qty 10 - $5.28 per lens

Kit 5 - FL model lens - Flood which is 32 deg (currently 216 in stock)
Qty 10 - $5.28 per lens

Kit 6 - WF model lens - Wide flood which is 45 deg (currently 194 in stock)
Qty 10 - $5.28 per lens

Post with the quantity of each kit you wish to order in this thread.  Please do not post questions or your thoughts in the Coop thread. Start a new thread in the correct area for these. Coop threads are strictly for people requesting or modifying orders. If you later wish to change your quantity please post again clearly stating that this is an update to a previous order and how many you wish it to be now.

Change your order as you wish during the ordering portion of the Coop, but please make sure I can tell what you are changing and desired numbers.  Please check the order list that follows to make sure I don't miss your order or any changes as the Coop continues and at the end of ordering.

If you have any questions please post a new thread to help keep the Coop thread clean.

Then you must include in the PayPal comments that you want $xxx value insurance on the package. *** Edited to clarify lens pricing.  Some thought each lens kit had 10 lenses in it.  Each kit is one lens.  The pricing is valid for a quantity of 10 lenses.  So they would be $5.28 X your quantity.  Extra lenses will cause the per lens price to go down.  Sorry for any confusion***

These are the FINAL numbers as of 2:45 pm on 4-24-12.

An R in the kit 2 column, means a refund.  A ">" with a number means that you chose to change your lens to the number listed in the column.  So, >4 means I shifted your kits to kit 4.  If there is a number by itself, then you choose to keep your lenses.

A-K will be here.  L-Z will be on the next posting.

Go back and use calculate price and go through the scenario. After you select flat rate box you can add extra services. Looking at your order it looks to me that insurance for $240 is $4.85.

I would not post the prices in it as they change. No one would ever remember to go back and change it and then the coop managers start getting paid less than they pay for it without it being clear to them.

Less than 33 hours left to get in payments for those that have not paid.  After 7:00 pm Eastern tomorrow, I will have to offer up any unpaid kits.

Also, everyone, please check the list on the first page to make sure I have everything correct for you and show you paid if you have.  I found a couple that got lost in the thumb drive crash shuffle I am doing.  if you find an error, please send me a PM.

I had one person drop out and have at least two Aether II kits available.  We need to sell at least these 2 to get extra price breaks on some items; so, in order to keep the prices the same, I will be offering the kits to other members.  If you want them, then post the quantity you want in this thread.

The first people that post after this post and who can pay immediately will get them.  Once I see your post, I will send you a PM with payment information.  Please note that you will need to pay immediately after receiving a PM from me about your total.

If the first person to post wants two or more, then that will be the only person to get in.  If that person only wants one, then the second person to post will be the last one in the coop.

UPDATE

All parts have been ordered except the hardware which should be ordered tonight or tomorrow.  The electronics have already shipped and will be here early next week.  Aluminum for the heat-sinks came in Tuesday.  Should get them built next week.

OK, here is the latest and I've got good new and bad news.  First the good news...all the electronic parts are in except for two pieces that are backordered.  They should ship this week, but they won't hold anything up as they can be used for my kits and I guess 2 parts short out of over 8500 is not too bad.

Now the bad news.  The 8 degree spot lenses (kit 2) are a WEEEEEEEEE bit big.  You can see the comparison in the picture below.  Mouser's catalog page showed them to all be the same, but they are actually twice as big as the others and will not fit with the standard cases in a standard setup.  This will only affect 23 people, but we need to deal with it. therefore, the options for those affected are as follows:

1.  You can convert the 8 degree lenses to a different lens and I will place a new order for the other lenses.
2.  I can refund your cost of the 8 degree lenses that you ordered.
3.  I guess a third option is I can send you what you originally ordered, but not sure how you would use them as you could not close the lid/lens of the light housing.

I am going to leave this thread unlocked so that the people affected can post with how they want their order modified.  If this event affects your order, please post here with what you want done.  I will give those affected until Sunday, April 22 @ 7:00pm to post with their preference.  If they do not post, then their 8 degree lens order will be refunded by default.

It was probably at least half my fault, but I do put some blame on Mouser.  Sorry for the oversight and the mixup, but we'll get through it.

Here is a list of all affected members and what they selected.  Please check this list to make sure I have your preference correct.  There were only two people that I did not hear from so I think I have everything correct.  An R in the kit 2 column, means a refund.  A > with a number means that you chose to change your lens to the number listed in the column.  So, >4 means I shifted your kits to kit 4.  If there is a number by itself, then you choose to keep your lenses.

The next post will contain the original order info from the first page for reference purposes.  The first page will continue to be the master and be updated as items change.  This next posting will just document things before the giant lens fiasco. 

Also, as an update:

All replacement lenses have been ordered
Hardware is in
Refunds for lenses (as applicable) have NOT been processed yet.  Hope to do that this week still.

PCB's & pigtails are the only major outstanding items not received.  SHOOT, also need to order the shipping boxes.  Will do that today. 

Also, I will be out of pocket after Wednesday for a few days for a funeral so I may not update until early next week.  I will be locking this thread again to make updates easier to find as they occur.

Refunds for those needing them for the kit# 2 lenses have been issued.  Some of them are coming directly out of my bank account since I didn't have enough funds left in my paypal account to cover all of them.  The refunds should be in your account around May 1st.  PM me if you don't get it or if I missed you.

Still not much change.  Still waiting on PCB's & pigtails.  All the hardware is sorted.  I have sorted all the adjustable regulators and am sorting other components that go into tubes.

Also, if you are attending the ultimate academy and want me to bring your kits, I can do that.  I cannot refund you any shipping costs...per discussion in another post...but I can eliminate the US postal service from handling your kits. >:D  Send me a PM if you want me to bring your kits to Texas with me.

5-21-12 UPDATE

OK, a little more action this time.  The PCB's & pigtails are on the way to me now.  Should be here this week.  All other parts are in...including the 5 straggling lenses from the UK.  Some more sorting has been done.  All the heat-sinks are sheared and I have about 80 left to form.  Hope to get them finished this week.

Looking forward, I have family coming in for the holiday so won't get much done this weekend.  I hope to have everything shipped before the Academy, but no promises.  I still have to put together two presentations for that...plus, my regular life and all.  Needless to say, I have a lot to do in 3 weeks so we'll see how it goes.  Again, if you want me to bring your Aether kits to the Academy, let me know ASAP so I can get those sorted first in case I run short on time. 

I believe that about covers it for now.

5-30-12 UPDATE

All the heat-sinks are now complete and ready.  I have about 150 of the pics programmed.  Hope to do a little each day, but I still have to finish my presentations for the Academy plus get ready and pack for it.  I will not be able to get these sent out before the Academy but should be shortly after I get back on the 25th.  I have a couple of people that want me to bring their kits to the Academy and I will have those with me.

6-5-12 UPDATE

Thanks to some help from the wife, all the pics are programed and the LEDs are sorted and packaged.  I took a couple of before and after pictures as I found it rather interesting how small of a space $8400 of electronics will fit into. 

I hope to get a few kits shipped in the next week; however, with only a week left until I leave for the academy...no promises.  Especially since I still have one presentation to complete.  :-X

6-11-12 UPDATE

Most of the sorting is complete and I have begun to ship kits out as I was able to get a few finished.  I got the kits going to Australia out first since they take the longest.  I will be updating the first page with info as they ship.  On orders for two kits with no lenses, I was able to get into a small box so I am adding insurance to those kits to help make up for the shipping difference.  If you want a refund instead, let me know.  I think this affects ~8-10 people. 

I will get a few more out tomorrow and that will probably be it until after the 24th when I get back from the Academy and vacation.  I have the kits for those at the Academy boxed and ready to go too.  I'll leave this thread unlocked since I have begun shipping.

I would like to thank "That Keith" for bringing my kits to the Academy. Since a lot of us were meeting him to receive our kits and didn't know what he looked like, and our usernames weren't on our nametags, a lot of us would ask every person named Keith if he were "That Keith". :)

Updated first page with latest shipping info.  I would have updated yesterday, but I didn't get back home until 3:30am Monday morning and was wiped out yesterday.  I also left my tape dispenser in Texas so will have to get that before i can get more kits out.  Should ship more this week.  It may be slow with the upcoming holiday and I have family in town, but will get them out ASAP.  There are ~55 left to ship.

So as I am cranking through packing the kits yesterday, I notice that it seems to be taking more packing material than I thought it would.  So I look more closely at the boxes and either I have ordered or the post office has sent me the wrong boxes.  I wound up with 3 cartons of the overseas military priority boxes which are much larger than the medium size boxes...plus I don't think I can even send them domestically to non-military.

SOOOOOOOOO, I make a run to 2 different post offices and locate about 20 boxes that are at least the correct rate/size.  I scrounge around the house and find another dozen or so that will work but are not flat rate.  I got around a dozen or so boxes ready to ship, but was not able to get labels for them all printed yet, so a handful of you will have packages shipped today, but not as many as I had hoped.  I will try and get some more boxes today, but I got all they had.  I'll see if I can locate some more non-priority boxes that I can use as well.

The good news is that the parts are all sorted, it is just a matter of getting them boxed, labeled, and shipped...which seems to be the most difficult part at this point.  I'll update the first page in the next few days, but you should get emails from PayPal as your stuff ships.  Just wanted to give an update as to the latest so you know what is going on and that it is going a little slower than I had hoped.

Keith take a deep breath and exhale.....  I like I'm sure most others here are content to wait till you get them shipped out. Things happen and plans get fubared but in the end it's not a big deal.  Taking on this coop is greatly appreciated by myself and I am sure everyone else so when you get them shipped is when you get them shipped.  <res.

Here's where we stand.  I have shipped out all except 4 packages and updated the first page with the latest info.  One person asked me to hold theirs; however, the other 3 are going to be delayed a few more days.  For some reason that I don't yet understand, I am short at least 16 heat sinks.  I am still searching through boxes and cars trying to find them since I know I had them at one point.

At any rate, I hope to have more made by next week.  I just have to track down more material.  For those 3 that I have not shipped, if you want me to ship the rest of your parts so you can begin building, I can do that, just let me know and I will ship out what I have and send the heat sinks after I get them made. 

Everyone else, let me know if you have any issues and I'll let you know when I get the rest of the parts made.

I had those set aside for something else and decided I didn't like that plan so I thought if people can bag air, surely I can bottle it.  They made for light and large filler.  As long as you get the caps on snugly, they should hold up pretty well.

As for the continuing heat-sink saga, I got the material for the heat-sinks.  I could not get it locally, so had my wife pick it up in Indy (90 miles away) when she went to drop off our niece at the airport.  Told her and the people at the metal supply what I needed.  She gets it home and I notice it seems awfully thick.  I measure it and apparently .064" (14 gauge) to them means .102" (10 gauge).  Not my wife's fault obviously (she left her calipers at home  ;)), but you would think that people who sell metal for a living (especially since it is mostly by weight) would know the difference.  Not a big deal except the heat-sinks made from these will be harder to hand-fit if needed.  I don't remember if the people left were in the last coop or not, but these heat-sinks will be about the same as the ones I got from RJ for the last coop which were made from the wrong material.

I made a new print and adjusted it for the increased thickness so hopefully they should fit well and no adjustments will be needed, but that is the latest.  I hope to get them sheared and formed next week. 

Almost everyone should have their orders by now except for 4 people and I'll send one of those off tomorrow.  If your order has been marked as shipped and you  have not received your order yet, let me know.

Glad you piped in.  I originally sent yours via UPS on June 12.  UPS didn't like the box I used...something about nuclear waste or flammable liquids or something  :o...so they sent it back to me.  That was right before I left for the Academy and vacation.  It got put in my trailer before I left and I have not unloaded it yet so it was still sitting in there when I checked last night.  I repackaged it and it is going out in today's mail.  You should have gotten tracking info from PayPal.  If not, let me know.  It should be there early next week.

Sorry for the delay and confusion.  I was really afraid that I had completely lost your order and was going to have to give you my kits.:'(

Ok, I started to working on my 2 tonight, However up[on inspection of all the parts I noticed the zip lock bag had a hole in it and I was missing 1 of the 120 ohm resisters and 1 fuse, I search the box and found a the loose resister stuck to the tape in the box. I was not able to find the fuse. Not all end of the box were taped so I guess it go lost in shipping. guess I'll have to order one from mouser, or maybe Frys Electronics might have one.

You'll never guess where I found the fuse! After I built my first board, I started working on the second, well the last 24 pin socket would not come out so I banged the plastic tube on the table and behold the fuse popped out. Guess I should have taken all the parts out of each back/tube. I tore the box apart thinking it might be stuck to the tape.

Oh well, Thanks for all your work in putting this COOP together.

OK, this should be the last update as I got the rest of the heat-sinks made this weekend and the last 3 boxes are shipped.   ;D  Everyone should have their kits by the end of the week.  Hopefully there are no issues/shortages.  It sounds like those that have built them so far have not had problems so that is reassuring.  Hopefully the rest will go as well.  Let me know if you have issues or shortages.  I had a few miscellaneous parts left over and am assuming those were just gifts from Mouser for ordering over $14k in parts.   :)

I want to thank the participants for their participation and for helping the coop to run as smoothly as possible.  Any issues that arose were definitely not due to the participants.  Also, thanks for hanging in there and for bearing with me in getting everything completed and shipped since the academy, holidays, and vacation made it run longer than I had intended.  Happy lighting!!
