I have downloaded XLights and have watched the videos you suggested.  I used the candy cane model to set up my layout.  I have one question for you. What plug in controller do I use. My Lynx Express controllers are not listed.

Thank You for your time and knowledge
Jim

Please do look into Xlight, i was trying to use Vixen, and had so many issues.

I did as you have and took out my items and I was able to get my Lynx Express active. Of course there is a Learning Curve
Here is a good start, in the program you will be using the option to use AC token
here is a good website  for other info that is look for Xlight and AC channels. AC channel the new term.

my Xlight setting are
under the tab controller
Create a USB/ then edit the port and the protocol to DMX enter your channel count

Vixen / Vixen 2.1.1.0 Help
« Last post by rubel864 on November 08, 2022,  »
I did light shows from 2014 thru 2017 using LSP software. In 2018 my computer was hacked and I lost my LSP software. I have Lynx Express controllers and Lynx either dongle hardware.  I want to try and get a simple show together using this hardware. I have downloaded the Vixen 2.1.1.0 software and tried to work things out setting it up. First problem is with PLUG IN. I have tried several of the listed options but keep getting port or com errors. Would anyone out there be willing to give me a hand setting this thing up? I know it is old school but the people in my neighborhood don't care, they just want lights flashing and music playing. Thanks Jim

Lynx SSR4 / How to program a DMX SSR4 using a Falcon PiCap

How I programmed the start channel of a Lynx SSR4 using the DMX output from a Falcon PiCap

The following began as a copy from the Lynx DMX manual in the section on programming the start channel, but with my update.

Thanks to Chris Pinkham, aka, Capt Murdock, for providing the tip on using the FPP display test option.

There is a jumper on the board marked “Terminate DMX” This should be on if this is the only DMX device on your string “universe” or the last one. Otherwise if it’s not the last DMX device on the line move it over so it does not connect the two pins and make sure the last device has itself terminated. In this case it is the only device so With the Controller Powered off! put it on.

Using FPP display testing set the start channel to 1 and the end channel to 4.  Use the fill test option to set the R (chan 1) value to the new start channel number you need.  Don't try to use the mouse to set the exact channel number, just get it close and then use the arrows on the keyboard to move the channel number up or down.
Now set the R/channel #1 intensity to the channel number you want to be your starting address and all other channels to 0 or off. If the desired start channel number is higher than 255 then set #1 at 255 and set channel #2 to the additional amount it will take to get to that channel. For example if I want my starting address to be 300 I would set channel #1 to 255 and channel #2 to 45 since 255 + 45 = 300. Now make sure the values are set properly. Click on "Enable Test Mode" so that we have the channel #1 and #2 data going out.

With the Controller Powered off! Move the jumper to the operate side. Now power up the SSR4 for three full seconds and then move the jumper to the program side. Do not touch the fuse or other items that will bite you. Wait two seconds and the unit will act like it went dead. Put the jumper back to operate and turn it off. Wait one second and plug it back in.

I have successfully done the procedure using a hard wired connection from the PiCap to the SSR4 and using a Lynx Wireless Transmitter and Receiver between the PiCap and the SSR4.
