RGB LEDs Question
« on: November 13, 2010, »
Hi Folks,

While continue to check/test my current lights for this season. I am dreaming of some SSC lights for next year.

How does everyone think they will control the lights. String, Node, Hybrid mode?

Currently I am thinking of string mode. It seems easier to control (ie: sequence), uses less channels

I really can't see having lights around my window begin in all different colors, unless you want a effect of red and green on, etc

So tell my your ideas and maybe why I am wrong and missing the big picture

Thanks

To me one of the benefits is to get to motion lights that chase but many more choices that the old lights that we used to buy.  Now you could do it with a single color or multiple colors.  Did you see the preview done by Dennis Cherry using CCRs where the lights were going in a circle?  Well with Smart Strings they could be going around a window or along a roof or gutter line.  Granted you could also just use them in string mode and get a choice of a single color while only having to put up a single string, but think of all the color choices.  The possibilities are boggling my mind.  Maybe I'm getting to old to play with this stuff, but then we all need a hobby of some kind.  Now if my budget can just keep up.  I may have to unretire so I can pay for all this stuff.

how about a chase of red in the middle of a megatree as in middle from top to bottom or a diagonal line of ligths runing around the megatree but yes these would take lots of channels and intensive programing but it blows away just straigt lines that we are limited to now. jez I need a second job to get pixellights >.d9

I am thinking of a array of strings in pixel mode and using something like what is found in LSP functionality.  Really don't need to squence much and can have a very cool effect of animation with AVI files. I can immagine all sorts of animation - scrolling text, complicated blends and chases (to name a few).  If you can make (obtain) an AVI you can do just about anything as I see it.  Just think,  a megatree can become a "canvas."  Think of what you can do with the coro type products as well and light diffusion capabilities that allows.

I'm really excited about being able to use SS (and what every else RJ has drempt up but isn't talking about); I see all kinds of applications here.

Also dont forget about being able to barber pole style effect up a tree.  Already had that in mind for SSCs along with some form of LED triks or Matrix style for scrolling graphics/text.

Sigh not done with this years stuff and already day dreaming about next year.  Is that called an addiction?   ;D.

I like the Hybrid version so when you want that quick all one color you just have to turn on one channel when you want more style (chasing lights.. knight rider style lights) then you take your extra time sequencing for those, not turning on 128 channels to green (or how many nodes you have).
