I have a really simple question.

Why do people have multiple Lynx Dongles?

I'm trying to figure out if I'll need one, or more than one.

In 2011, I won't have more than 512 DMX channels, not even close.

I don't know what the limit is, but if one only supports 512 DMX channels,
then maybe you use these for lots of channels ...

Am I close, or are there other reasons why you would need more than 1 Dongle?

Thanks in advance,
Scott / taybrynn

I planon having 2 setup for pixlenet and 2 for regular dmx. the reason is more for testing than anything else.

You really don't need more than 1 if you are staying under 512 channels of DMX or under 4000 channels of Pixelnet.  I think that it's a good idea to have a second one as a backup and for testing but beyond that, unless you need more channels you are really wasting money.
If at first you don't succeed,
your not cut out for sky diving

If I understand it correctly, someone jump in if I am wrong, i need at least 2 dongles for pixelnet.

Pixelnet is 4096 channels which equals 1365 nodes per controller. I will have over 1365 nodes and I also will have other DMX controllers.

Now if you use pixelnet and the DMX out option on the SS hub then that takes away from the 4096 channels to make your new total 3584 channels. That means if you run pixelnet and the DMX out option on the SS hub you can only have 1194 pixels.

If you just run plain DMX then you are good to 512.

Anyone disagree?

That seems correct to me.  I have 4 boards on order and I already own a built dongle.  I also have the parts to build 2 dongles.  The idea is to run each hub independantly with one dongle and have a separate DMX universe running wireless.  I may even go with two dongles for the hubs and hookup the wireless DMX transmitter to one of the hubs and steal 512 channels from pixelnet to run my DMX stuff.  The third dongle would be a spare.  The remaining 2 dongle boards would be to cover "Murphy"...
