One of the most amazing things i have seen
« on: January 26, 2012, »
When I first went to meet my wife in Ukraine in 1998, she showed me to the Museum of Miniatures in Kiev. I was thinking this was going to be miniature dolls, or objects. The small room is on the campus of the Lavra. The Russian orthodox Church has been holding church services on this campus  since 1051ad.

So in one room, maybe 20'x20', there are maybe 20 stereoscopic microscopes.

The first one i came to had this notice in Russian and English. The artist Mykola  Syadristry wrote
"A hair is drilled lengthwise and polished off inside and outside. A rose branch is inserted inside the hair. The diameter of the flower is 0.05 mm."

I looked through the microscope and this is what i saw

As i moved down the row of microscopes, i saw other amazing things

He took a poppy seed, cut it in half, hinged it, created a Balalaika (3 stringed Russian instrument) in one half.

Since most of the art was created in the 60's, i found it pretty amazing that one of his heroes was Abraham Lincoln. He created a sculpture of Lincoln

This sculpture is 3mm x 3mm. 1" = 25.4 mm

A world's smallest working motor, 0.05 cubic mm

If I ever meet Mykola (he still lives in Kiev), i would ask him some questions
1) How can you hollow out a human hair? What tools and methods did you use?
2) Why?

"Oops!, I dropped the poppy seed"

thanks

That is really cool.

Although, I'd have to ask "Why?".

Although, there are lots of people who'd ask us the same thing.  :D
