Suggestions,anyone?
« on: December 05, 2012, »
I am a total noob to all of this,so any input would be greatly appreciated.

As I understand it,correct me if I'm wrong. The only way to get a lynx setup is to wait for a coop, or find a used one,in the for sale section of the Forum?

I am highly anticipating the next coop, if there is one(Seen a post about the IRS,taxes, coops) I've also sent RJ a PM inquiring about a setup. Still waiting on word back from him.

As a noob,(I know that all of you have been here at one point). One question would be, what are a couple of things you wish you would have known in the beginning of your lighting odyssey?

Another question I have is,are there any other PCB and dongle combos that are fully assembled, that I could play with while waiting for the next coop? I've only seen one other out there, which is JOSHUA. Maybe some of you have tinkered with this board and dongle and could
Let me know the pros and cons of this setup?

Any suggestions to any of the questions above would be greatly appreciated.

At this time of year it will be hard to find any. You can also look in the store on the main menu bar. But again it is pretty cleaned out. My suggestion as I was exactly where you are 1 year ago and the advise I was given (which I did not take and am paying for it ) was Download Vixen or buy the software you are going to use and start sequencing now (yes you may think it is early, but believe me when summer hits and you have to do stuff time flys by and you are scrambling) Plan your show now and know what you will need. Be paitent for the COOP's as they help alot. But be warned, the first ones will open and some closed within a couple of hours. Be ready for the sales in the store come boxing day or earlier and buy lights you will need them (you will never have enough) also during summer buy lights at garage sales.

Thanks for the tip Steve! I've already downloaded Vixen and played with it for a couple of minutes. I want to get some more software to see what is most user friendly. As for lights,I want to run all RGB LED. The show will start out small next year but will grow every year.

I've got a bunch of stuff not being used and will probably post items in the FS section this weekend.

Dongles, both types
LE's assembled and kits
SSC kits

Just to list....

you will spend more then you plan on.....you can never have enough cords and always have extra lights, controllers, a back up computer, back up your computer work ( in two different places) ......and you will always run out of time.......  ;) then the fun starts.

I grossly underestimated extension cords.  I figured 1000 feet would do it.  I hit about 3000...lol.
