Setup Ideas
« on: December 29, 2012, »
Trying to get some ideas on how I can setup for next year and want to get your thoughts on the best way to run/setup things.

So the left hand side most of my stuff will sit both dmx and pixelnet devices.  I had my ET/Conductor - FM Transmitter inside the garage and ran the cat5 just under the garage door to where I had my hub and stuff by the bushes.  Worked for this year. My power came from the garage also, I do have a 4 inch pipe running under the sidewalk to get out to the yard for wires.

Now I wan to add items on the right had side by the third garage.  1 Aether, 5 North poles (pixelnet DSC/SSC).  Ill probably put my Tune To sign on this side also.  I would like to keep the ET/Conductor - Transmitter in the garage.  One idea I had was to have a 4 port passive pixelnet hub next to the ET and run to a 16 passive on the right and run to a 16 active on the left and then have a TX on the left off my last DMX on the left to an EX on the Aether on the right.  Attached my thought out in a picture.  Also attached a picture of my house.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
--Todd

Seems reasonable.  You may consider going active hub on the other side of the garage (since you are already sending a cable there and swap out the wireless for a straight up RJ-45 cable from the second hub) in lieu of the wireless, but if it works, looks good.

Similar to what I have going on in my show.

Yeah that sounds better now that you say that.  So is ok to have hub-hub setup before going to actual devices?

What's the 4 port hub doing?    I think you can just go from the etherdongle to active hub#1, then active hub #2 from there.

Making it so its a shorter line 30 ft vs 90 ft and so I can just do the split right at the start.

the 4 port will only work for the 1st pixelnet universe (pins 1&2)  the rest of the pins are blocked in the hub.

I'd either run ed to 16port hub, to 16port hub....
OR
run to a pixelnet splitter first, then to each hub.

(I'm currently running the second scenario now)

The preferred setup for multiple hubs is to go to an active hub and from there to the other active or passive hubs. The active hub regenerates all four pixelnet universes on the two pixelnet outputs.

The pixelnet splitter also would work there instead of the 4-port hub.  It has two passthru outputs and two regenerated outputs, all with 4 universes.
