Finally have a video to share...
« on: January 03, 2012, »
One of my biggest challenges this year has been getting a video of the 2011 show. My wife and I were extremely blessed and able to take advantage of hugely deflated home values in our area to buy a heavily treed acre on a fairly busy corner. This sounds great until one considers the logistics of completely redesigning a show in 3 months, with 2 major viewing angles that requires the back of every element to look as good as the front. The house is set back so far, I can't afford a video camera of such quality to pull in the amount of light it would take to get a clear video...so here's my best attempts so far.

Below are pictures of the challenge. Migrate the 2010 ranch house show to the sprawl of the new place. It sucked up every light I had, plus another 5000 or so. And still looks sparse.

Enjoy,
Mike E.

Mike it looks good. Nothing to worry about.

I can relate to the two viewing angles as I have a corner lot.  It's always a challenge, design and financially, trying to make sure there is something to see no matter where your guest is parked.  You do the best you can as no matter how you do it, the face of the house always seams to win.

Great job and cool video!  Could swear you are using over well over 200 channels...

After checking out your video I realize you can use more than one channel on larger items.

Also, really liked your strobes on the ground.  Spacing and usage very tasteful.  Willing to share any info?

OK, added another link to the original post and some annotated daylight pictures of the details.
Lots of extension cords, 1500' SPT1 and 75 or so male/female vampire plugs.
Red & Green candy canes and snowfall lights are stock items, just used a ladder and fiberglass painters pole to get them up to height in the trees.

Meman,

Great show!  My wife told me after seeing your show that we have to get meteor lights now! *smile*.  Nicely done!

Meman,
Thanks for the behind the scenes info!  Definitely adding strobes this year.  I assume those were xenon.  Did you run them all on one channel?
