Damaged CF Adapter
« on: November 08, 2012, »
I examined my 2 boards and found that not only did one of the CF Adapters have loose pins, some of the pins were actually bent sideways.

I need to know what can be done because this is definitely not a field replaceable part?

Thanks,

If the pins are not severely damaged, you may be able to straighten them back out. If they are just pushed to one side, you can gently push them back into place with a screwdriver or anything small enough to get between the pins. If they are badly twisted or severely bent, you may have a hard time straightening them without damaging the adjacent pins. In this case you may actually need to remove the adapter to repair or replace it.

Here is a picture of the damage.

I believe it was damaged during the shipping.

One of my cards also had bent pins. I carefully straightened the top portion where it was bent and it returned to it's normal position. You need to make sure it seats in the lower plastic slot. I had to use an exacto knife to hold the pin down while I reflowed just using a rosin pin and no additional solder.
