Go back into Vixen profile manager, view your plugins and make sure that the Entec check box is still checked. Many time after editing the com port, the box becomes unchecked. If that doesn't work, cut Vixen out of the picture for a minute and download the DMX deck from the wiki to see if it will make some channels come on through the dongle.

If that doesn't work, the dongle may be suspect. Reflash it for DMX

if you unplug the cable from the dongle to the express, does the dmx light go out?

That is what it's supposed to do.  Do you have the correct driver installed for the Dongle.  If you pluggged it into the PC before installing the correct driver, Windows will install one that doesn't work properly and this is one of the symptoms of that.

Check the "new" PIC and make sure that it is seated properly in the socket and that one or more of the pins didn't fold underneith.  The green light being lit and the program not locking up shows that the dongle was sorta working.  The lack of the green light and the program locking up shows that it isn't working now.

By swapping out the usb board on the dongle, your computer would have assigned a new com port to the dongle. Your profile in Vixen might need to be updated for the new board.

My advice. take a break from it all for a bit. Then take a look at your solder connections on the back of your board before you do anything else and touch up any connections that need it. Then look at the top side of your board and ensure that your components  are oriented correctly as per the Wiki.

We can help you through this.
