Longevity of a dongle
« on: November 30, 2012, »

Its the most wonderful time of the year.

If kept out of the weather it should last for many years without issue.
If at first you don't succeed,

I have backup lynx dongles, Entec dongle, LOR dongles (even though I'm not using any), ED, LE's, lights, PC, fm transmitter, network switch, router almost everything except for a DC controller but I do have enough spare channels.  I don't want to be dead for 3-4 days scrambling.  They are electronics.

I guess you can never have too many dongles. :)

This is my first year and I built an additional dongle and LE for back up. Never thought about an additional FM transmitter.

I like a spare or a backup plan for each piece of critical equipment.
In a pinch, the LE kit can be ready for use in about 6 hours.
The open DMX dongle could get me through a few days without a dongle
A couple of USB dongles could sub for an etherdongle.
I have spare pics, 485 chips, triacs, and those little green fuses for the smart strings.

Never thought about an additional FM transmitter.

One of those $60 Chinese models works as a good spare.

when ordering, there was a zero for quanity, and i thought it changed to a 2, however, when i received the package, i saw that it had been 20 instead of 2.   i did get a refund on 18 of them.  <fp.

Ditto, plus fuses for LEs, optos, etc
This is also a reason to own a pickit and not rely on someone else to flash your pics.
