Thinking of next year
« on: December 03, 2012, »
I'm thinking of using some Aether's next year in my show but I know nothing about how to hook them up. From what I have read you get in a coop, buy a case, buy a transformer and What? I believe the unit is powered separately from the controllers so how do you get it to dance. I see cat5 plugs but have no idea where the cat5 goes. Basically how are they controlled?  <fp.

They are dmx. You can either use 1 cat 5 or if you want you can use 1 cat 5 as an input and the other as an output to the next dmx item. Another aether for example.

So an LE has dmx in and out and you program the LE to what ever channels you want. Is the Aether similar? You run dmx to it via the cat5 and then some how on the pcb you program the channel configuration?

Yes each aether has 4 channels. Rgbw. You use software to program its start channel.

Does everything other then the case and transformer come in the kits (including the Rj45 jacks and leads)?

Thanks, I'm sure I will have more questions once I get a couple and try to put them together.

Of course you have to have cable from another DMX device to the Aether unless you decide to add a wireless module to it. If so it uses a modified LE wireless module.

From the usb dongle to LE#1 to LE#2 to Aether#1 to LE#3 to Aether #2 and so on. Is that right?

The le's are connected to each other and the aether receives its data from the le dmx output. I have one le feeding dmx to 3 aethers by connecting one aether to a le and the rest of the aethers to that one aether. They provide a huge impact to the show. I will be getting 2 more for next year.

signal...  DMX
use the cat 5 cable to input/output DMX from other devices.

extra items needed.
the shell from a 500 watt work floodlight. most work, it's good to ask people that have them, before you go and buy one.
a 12vAC landscaping transformer. (note that this uses AC instead of DC)

setup placement
just point at the object you want to light up. best results on white surfaces.

setup software
uses software on the computer to set start channel. (instead of a program jumper on the pcb [or terminate jumper], there are 2 switches inside the glass)
To rule the entire tri-state area!  What's that? Perry the Platypus!!!
