RS-485 chip
« on: December 05, 2012, »
Do i need to have both comm chips in to run the controller or just one? If so what one can I remove?  The reason I'm asking this is I had a short in my comm line and fried one and would like to keep my show running till the new one come in.

The one by the DMX in jack is required unless you are using the wireless daughter card.  The one by the DMX2 out jack powers the DMX2 output.  If you remove the one by the DMX in, then the controller will not function in wired mode and neither will the DMX2 output.  If you remove the one by the DMX2 output, then just the DMX2 output will not functionregardless of wired or wireless.  This means that if you are using the wireless EX/RX daughter card, you can remove the RS485 by the DMX in without issue.  If you are using a wired connection, you can remove the RS485 by the DMX2 out and only lose the DNX2 ouiput.

Thank you Tbone. I was thinking that was true but was not 100% sure.
