Savable or just good for parts? SAVED!!!!!!!!!

Hello All, Had this controller go dead on me last night, no power so I replaced the two fuses, when I plugged it in puff, the magic smoke appeared!!! Wondering if she can be saved or is now just good for parts?

It was dry as could be, even though we had rain the day before.Odd thing was that it worked fine until I turned the dryer on.

Your dealing with deadly voltage, i would not take a chance on the it.

I have fixed far worse in my time.  I was co-owner in an electronics assembly company for about 7 years and now run one for what was once one of my customers.  Over the past 20 years I have rebuilt legacy equipment for one of our lighting customers to salvage equipment they could not replace.  Yours looks like worst case it could be rebuilt with one channel missing, but I would say I could fix that and have it to full serviceability.  There does not seem to be significant charring of the fiberglass substrate.

Well, as crazy as it may sound, I just put it on the bench, attached two power cords got the Lynx Express 60 HZ message, 3.3v and 5.0v lights lit up. So I put it in test mode and it went through the test mode PERFECTLY!!!

Just because it tests doesn't mean it will work.  I am curious what would cause this. 

I'm curious what the board looks like once its cleaned up.

No shocker, but I hooked up a power cord to the two affected channels and the lights stay on. Swapped out the optos with working ones and the lights plugged in to test stay on. About to perform a double triacectomy!

Do you have slugs in New York?  Something corrosive got on those solder pads.

If you really clean it up with alcohol and can actually load test the outputs, and it works, I'd keep it as a spare.

But if more than one channel was dead, I'd salvage the heat sink and PIC but trash the board.

We do have slugs and have had a lot of rain the past few days. I would also save the opto chips the h1a11, and the 485 chips.

Go FIGURE!!!!!! The DOUBLE triacectomy and implant was a complete SUCCESS!!!!! Yet my other unused controller that has a channel stuck on that I changed the triac and opto on, still has the channel stuck on?? Question, as you can see in the previous picture, there are traces showing, what can I cover them up with???

Corrosion X may even be a slug repellent (haven't tested)
